Kein concert raises 4500 euros for artists and cultural workers in Münsterland

Münsterland Festival fundraising campaign helps 22 actors in crisis

Even the Münsterland Festival team did not expect such a great response: They sold more than 300 tickets with the fundraising campaign "No Concert of Superlatives" and thus collected about 4500 euros. Now the recipients of these proceeds have been determined: 22 artists, cultural workers and ensembles from the region whose engagements were cancelled due to the Corona crisis.

"It was great to see that so many people showed solidarity with the artists and cultural workers and so diligently bought tickets for the Kein concert," emphasises Lars Krolik, festival director at Münsterland e.V. Andre Sebastian, director of the Münsterland Cultural Office, adds: "We hope that the diverse art and cultural scene in Münsterland will remain with us despite the crisis and do our utmost to support the scene not only with this campaign but also with our other offers from the Cultural Office."

With the Kein concert, the Münsterland Festival had invited people to an imaginary concert in May and relied on the solidarity of the people of Münsterland. For tickets could still be bought for 9.90 or 19.90 euros. The entire proceeds went to the Münsterland Art and Culture Foundation, which now provides unscheduled funding. Artists from the region could apply for these funds until the end of May. All in all, all 22 applications have now been approved, only the application volume has been adjusted to the available budget. Among them are artists from the entire region and from very different genres: theatre, dance, music, musicals or cabaret.

The Münsterland Art and Culture Foundation, based at Münsterland e.V., supported the festival organisers in the allocation of proceeds. "We were very pleased with the diversity of applications and it was important to us to consider all applications," emphasises Andre Sebastian, managing director of the foundation and head of the Münsterland Cultural Office.

"We tried to support established ensembles as well as bands and labels that have not existed for very long, because the crisis is hitting them extremely hard," explains Lars Krolik.

Among those supported, for example, is MNEME, a newer collective of professional dancers, who would like to thank everyone who contributed and participated in the fundraising. "Unfortunately, due to the Corona crisis in April, all our performances of our new project 'Mission Funkel' at the Theater an der Meerwiese in Münster were cancelled," says Charlotte Petersen. The dancers hope to make up for their participatory dance theatre performance at a later date and are also planning performances in Münsterland.

Musician Christian Kappe (trumpet and flugelhorn), who has often performed at the Münsterland Festival himself and also works as an arranger, composer and music educator, is also one of those receiving funding. "From mid-March to the end of August alone, I have 29 concerts and workshops cancelled," lists Kappe. "I am all the more grateful for the commitment of the people of Münsterland to support us artists."

An overview of all recipients is available online at www.muensterland.com/kultur.
