This circular route starts at the Ludgerus Cathedral in Billerbeck and leads from there through the beautiful park landscape of the Münsterland. First, the route takes you westwards. After a short time, you will come across the imposing Varlar Castle. From there, the route continues towards Holtwick. A romantic village with historic buildings.
From Holtwick you continue through the Münsterland park landscape via Osterwick to Darfeld. Shortly before entering the village, you will find Darfeld Castle, which is worth seeing and is one of the most impressive testimonies to the Venetian Renaissance in Münsterland. However, this castle cannot be visited as it is privately owned.
In Darfeld you can visit the St. Nikolai parish church and the Heimat- und Bürgergaus at the railway station. Route 199 leads past Darfeld towards Billerbeck through a slightly hilly landscape. Billerbeck has a number of sights that are well worth a visit, such as the Ludgerus Cathedral, the Catholic parish church of St. John the Baptist, the Kolvenburg, a former moated castle in the Berkel Valley, the Ludgerus Fountain, the Beckebans House, Billerbeck's most beautiful secular building, the Archidiakonat and the Richthof.
