Weidenhof: From the field to the shopping basket

The Weidenhof in Lengerich is a "real all-rounder". Here you can buy all the items you need on a daily basis, and in organic quality: field-fresh fruit and vegetables, cheese and meat, a wide variety of cereal products, drinks and natural cosmetics. In the middle of the idyllic Tecklenburger Land lies the listed half-timbered farm, surrounded by the farm's own fields and greenhouses. This is where the vegetables grow that have the shortest route to the consumer after harvesting: from the field directly into the shopping basket.

Founded as a family business

The family business was founded 18 years ago. The Weidenhof team consists of about 25 employees, some of them full-time, many of them part-time, but all of them committed to their work. Whether in the office, in customer care, in the farm shop or with both hands in the field: the 'Bio‛ bracket holds everyone together.

The main feature of the farm is its tripartite nature: Firstly, the farm grows its own produce, which is also sold in the farm shop. At the Weidenhof, this is exclusively vegetables, from potatoes and lettuce to pumpkin, courgettes and broad beans. Other products are supplied by friendly organic farms in the neighbourhood.

The vegetable subscription "Grüne Kiste

In addition, there are the weekly markets and the "Grüne Kiste", the vegetable subscription from the Weidenhof. And it's going pretty well: "Organic freshness delivered to your doorstep in a relaxed and flexible way" is the motto of the in-house delivery service. This is not least based on the idea of sustainability: it is better to have one car drive to many stations than many cars to one station. And the delivery area is large. From Osnabrück and Ibbenbüren to Münster, Dortmund and Bochum. The catchment area has developed historically, and many regular customers have been loyal to "their farm" for years.

The customers of the Weidenhof are fully convinced of the sustainability of the organic products: whether large families or single pensioners, most of them come to do their weekly shopping - many of them even by bicycle, as befits "true Münsterlanders".
