EDUARDO CHILLIDA. THE SEARCH FROM NOVEMBER 8 AT VISCHERING CASTLE

Inspiration for an entire generation

"My life and my work have always consisted of
trying to do what I didn't know how to do,
and so I spent my time questioning, doubting, searching."

Eduardo Chillida (1924-2002) was one of the most important sculptors of the 20th century. Famous for his monumental iron sculptures, he also created a comprehensive graphic oeuvre.

Throughout his life, the Spanish artist was on a quest: guided by architectural principles, he explored the laws of space and time in his sculptural and graphic constructions. Chillida's graphic works show a turn towards abstract form, similar to the shapes of his sculptures. His style is minimalist and reduced, characterized by basic geometric forms that he models into complex, fascinating structures. The exploration of opposites is central: Fullness and emptiness, light and shadow, heaviness and lightness. His art invites us to understand space as an active, living presence. Using selected drawings and prints, the exhibition at Burg Vischering shed light on Chillida's fascinating graphic work and its connection to sculpture.

In cooperation with Galerie Boisserée, Cologne.
