Picnicking with the best view: special equipment elements in Nordkirchen
The Picknick³ project of Münsterland e.V. celebrated the production of 10,000 picnic boxes with a big thank-you picnic for the team at Alexianer START GmbH in Münster. Five years ago, the first handmade crate rolled off the production line in the Alexianer workshops - it was the start of a success story.
"10,000 picnic boxes are an important milestone. The crate has become a symbol for the Münsterland picnic region," says project manager Laura Woolfenden from Münsterland e.V. "At the same time, it is a prime example of regional cooperation in action," adds her colleague Lea Kirschberg.
To mark the occasion, a cosy picnic atmosphere was created in the Alexianer START GmbH courtyard. With picnic loungers, parasols and tables, everything was centred around regionality, community and enjoyment. There were treats for everyone from partners of the Münsterland seal and the Münsterland eco-model region: an apple from Ökullus, a yoghurt from Fockenbrock, a cheese stick from Cibaria, quark balls from the Geiping bakery and Töftes from Salvus.
"Our employees produce the boxes with great care. The joint picnic was a strong sign of appreciation and made our special partnership in the Münsterland region visible," emphasises Dirk Immendorf, Group Manager at the Angelmodde site, where the Alexianer Holzmanufaktur is based.
The idea for the picnic box came about in 2019, shortly after the Alexians themselves became a member of the Münsterland Seal. They were looking for a container for picnics: not a classic basket, versatile and ideal for showcasing the Münsterland region. The result was the picnic box made of German spruce wood, labelled with the regional logo and the claim "DAS GUTE LEBEN". Partners can also have them customised with an engraving.
The boxes are used for the Christmas campaign "Give the gift of a picnic", filled all year round by catering establishments and tourism partners as well as at events and functions in the region.
Demand for the picnic boxes remains high. Several hundred new boxes are currently being produced and will soon be on their way throughout Münsterland.
