Münsterland horse region

Münsterland is one of the leading equestrian regions in Germany. With over 80,000 horses and around 58,000 active equestrian athletes, the region is an important centre for equestrian sport and breeding - and creates the best conditions for a wide range of economic sectors, companies and jobs.

The equestrian industry in Münsterland comprises a large number of businesses and institutions of national and international importance. This wide range of offerings attracts recreational riders as well as professionals and horse owners to the region. The importance of the equestrian industry for the Münsterland is also reflected in the regional economic structure. Agriculture plays a particularly important role in the districts of Borken, Coesfeld and Warendorf. Overall, the sector generates 1.8 per cent of gross value added - more than in any other NRW region - and thus contributes almost 30 per cent of the total agricultural gross value added in NRW.

The combination of a strong agricultural base and a pronounced equine industry makes the Münsterland a unique region in Germany. The close link between tradition and modernity as well as the high density of equestrian businesses contribute significantly to the economic strength and attractiveness of the region.
