A look back at past events

Discovering your new home with your smartphone

On 3 September 2026, 16 newcomers to the Münsterland region got to know one another whilst taking photographs together. Following a brief introduction to mobile photography by social media expert Kristina Konken and photographer Philipp Fölting, they set off in small groups to Münster harbour. Modern architecture, converted warehouses and the unique atmosphere around the Mittelhafen provided plenty of photo opportunities. Over finger food and cold drinks, there was then plenty of time for a chat.

Enjoyment and encounters - baking brings people together in Münsterland!

At the welcome event in April 2026, 15 newcomers came together at Cibaria in Münster to bake rye sourdough bread and rye bread rolls. Between the flour and the dough, it quickly became clear that arriving takes time - just like good bread. While baking, the first conversations and real encounters began. At the end, contact details were exchanged and initial networks were established. Master baker Ute Kaulitz not only opened the doors to the bakery, but also to her craft. She gave exciting insights into the work of the organic wholemeal bakery and shared practical tips that can also be implemented at home. The participants particularly emphasised the added value of the format: the personal exchange, the shared experience and the look behind the scenes of a traditional craft made the day an all-round enriching experience.

Cheering together, arriving together - sport unites!

What a successful afternoon! Sport creates emotions, connects people and provides the ideal setting for socialising. The Onboarding@Münsterland service welcomed newcomers to Münsterland at the Bundesliga match between USC Münster and ETV Hamburger Volksbank Volleys. Arriving in a sporting atmosphere was easy - cheering and cheering together brings people together. USC Münster rounded off the afternoon with a commanding 3:0 victory. What was particularly nice was that the participants included international professionals, returnees and newcomers from all over Münsterland. A strong sign of how sport brings people together!

Music and new contacts - getting to know each other at the Münsterland Festival

Around 10 newcomers experienced unforgettable moments at the welcome event in Hiltrup. A relaxed evening of tapas was followed by a real highlight: the concert by La Jose as part of the Münsterland Festival.
With her unique voice and impressive stage presence, she transported the audience into the world of contemporary flamenco - full of passion, goosebumps and pure energy. But it wasn't just the music that was inspiring: the Münsterland newcomers took the opportunity to talk to each other, make new contacts and get to know the region from a special angle. This is exactly what the welcome events stand for - arriving, networking, feeling at home.

DJ picnic on the beach in Greven

Around 15 Münsterland newcomers got to know each other over summery beats as part of the Münsterland Picnic Days. DJ Denis played on the Radio RST party truck while the newcomers chatted to each other at the picnic table. The weather was perfect, at almost 30 degrees, it was summery warm! Just right for cold drinks and a filled picnic basket.

Poetry slam meets harbour flair

On 8 May 2025, around 30 newcomers and returnees were greeted at a welcome event at B-Side am Hafen in Münster. After a short, exciting tour of the creative location, there was delicious food, cool drinks and a real goosebump moment: poetry slammer Dilara Yüksek brought the Münsterland region to the stage with her word art. Her message? Recognising opportunities, doing instead of hesitating, arriving and shaping. In keeping with this motto, people exchanged ideas, laughed, networked and simply arrived. An evening full of inspiration, emotions and new perspectives - all in the spirit of welcoming culture, creativity and community. This is what THE GOOD LIFE feels like!

Pleasure connects: Münsterland newcomers enjoy regional specialities

This is how good Münsterland tastes: 25 newcomers to Münsterland came together on 19 February 2025 at an evening tasting in the Heimat Heroes schnapps store in Ahaus to make contacts and sample regional specialities. The event was organised by the Onboarding@Münsterland service at Münsterland e.V., which regularly organises welcome events in the region for newcomers and returnees. The sociable tasting was particularly popular, where guests were not only able to sample various aperitif cocktails, wines and antipasti, but also learn more about the Heimat Heroes products that have been awarded the Münsterland seal of quality.

Getting to know each other on a guided tour of the zoo

At the welcome event in Münster in October 2024, around 25 newcomers from Münster were able to get to know each other on a guided tour of the Allwetterzoo. During the 90-minute tour, the participants were able to gain interesting insights into the Allwetterzoo. The special thing about it: The tour took place in the evening, when many animals are much more active than during the day. So it was no wonder that the lions ran along the fence as the group stood in front of it. In addition to lions, the Münsterland newcomers also saw bears, elephants and young tiger cubs. After so many impressions, the group went to the zoo bistro. There was plenty of time to chat and get to know each other over finger food and drinks.

Food connects: Internationals get to know each other while cooking in Münster

Conversations across cooking pots, contacts with like-minded people and, last but not least, a delicious, international four-course meal: All this was on offer at the first welcome event for international newcomers on 18 April in Münster. The twelve participants came from countries such as Georgia, India, Iran and Egypt and discussed their first time in Münsterland as well as culinary differences and specialities. Last but not least, the food provided plenty to talk about: the newcomers set to work together and put together a menu that combined dishes from different cultures. Not only asparagus salad from the Münsterland region and beetroot risotto ended up on the plates, but also tortilla and a Münsterland quark dish for dessert. More international welcome events will follow.
