Mission White Flamingo: Culture podcast portrays unique cultural places in Münsterland

MUNSTERLAND. Many cultural venues in Münsterland are like the flamingos in the Zwillbrocker Venn: they are special, but also somewhat hidden. To change that, the Münsterland Cultural Office is now giving these rural institutions a stage in the form of the new cultural podcast "Mission White Flamingo". In each episode, Kulturbüro staff member Anna-Ida Almus visits a cultural venue in the region, looks behind the scenes, and talks to the cultural actors and artists on site. Her first episode about the DA, Kunsthaus Kloster Gravenhorst, now shows how impressive the stories of these places away from the metropolises are.

"With my podcast, I want to encourage people in Münsterland to take a 'little trip around the world to the countryside' and discover cultural treasures on their own doorstep. Or to rediscover them," Anna-Ida Almus sums up her goal. "The podcast is meant to arouse curiosity and give the final push here and there to break away from the familiar places to go and actively go in search of new cultural places."

As an employee in the voluntary social year (FSJ) at the cultural office, she has made the project her own, from the idea to the development to the implementation. With an initial three episodes planned, Anna-Ida Almus presents interesting places, people and stories about culture in rural areas: from artists' residences to exhibition venues, from castles to performance art in a vegetable patch, it's all there.

"The podcast sheds new light on the highlights of Münsterland as a cultural region and provides an acoustic look behind the scenes," says Andre Sebastian, head of the Münsterland Cultural Office. "We are already very excited to see how it goes down with listeners. Especially because there are so many varied cultural institutions here, we naturally hope that Anna-Ida and the white flamingo will go on many more journeys of discovery."

The podcast project is supported by the federal government as part of the programme "land.schafft - funding for cultural volunteer projects in rural areas" of the Bundesvereinigung Kultureller Kinder- und Jugendbildung e.V. "With the funding I was able, for example, to buy the technical equipment, i.e. recording equipment and a large-membrane microphone," explains Anna-Ida Almus. "Of course, recording was not possible at first during the Corona lockdown, which is why the project was delayed. Now I can finally visit people in person again, talk to them and then share their exciting stories with a wide audience."
