Münsterland Festival part 13 presents programme: Around 50 events with guest country Spain
Flamenco with flamingos: this is the motto of the Münsterland Festival part 13 with guest country Spain. From 4 October to 8 November, Münsterland e.V. invites you to a diverse programme of music, art and dialogue, focusing on the Spanish art and culture scene. Tickets and the full festival programme are now available online at www.muensterland-festival.com.
"For the 20th anniversary of the Münsterland Festival, we have put our heart and soul into creating a very special edition with an authentic and varied programme," emphasises Christine Sörries, Artistic Director. The star of the 13th edition is flamenco, which runs through the entire programme in its various forms. 34 concerts from the genres of jazz, classical and folk music showcase Spain's musical diversity, which is deeply rooted in tradition and at the same time open to new sounds. In addition, five art and seven dialogue projects, including excursions and themed evenings, invite you on an inspiring journey of discovery throughout the Münsterland region. "Only a strong network makes such a special festival possible. When over 40 locations pull together, you can achieve great things. It shows how lively and committed our region is," says Lars Krolik, Festival Director at Münsterland e.V.
The variety of events is made possible by a large number of sponsors and supporters, including in particular the state of NRW with funding from the Regional Culture Programme (RKP). The programme involves 40 towns and municipalities throughout Münsterland with around 50 exciting venues. Andreas Grotendorst, CEO of Münsterland e.V., says: "The Münsterland Festival brings international artists to our communities, towns and cultural venues, creating something special: it also allows people who live here to get to know their home in a completely different way."
The 13th edition of the festival will be opened on 4 October by saxophone star and singer Antonio Lizana at the Falkenhof Museum in Rheine. There he will present Andalusian flamenco with jazz, oriental sounds and global influences. A special highlight of the concert is the performance by El Mawi de Cádiz - flamenco dancers, singers and a real stage event. Momi Maiga will conclude the festival at Burg Vischering in Lüdinghausen on 8 November. With the kora - a bridge harp with 22 strings - the musician brings together the sound traditions of West Africa with the lightness of Spain.
Ana Crismán presents a form of flamenco at the Ahlen Art Museum on 10 October. The Andalusian artist is the first flamenco harpist in the world to skilfully combine these two different styles. Daniel García will be performing twice at the festival: Firstly with his trio (11 October | Schloss Ahaus), with which he shows a different side to jazz: full of inspiration from modern jazz, classical music, pop and influences from the Caribbean and the Middle East. Together with Pablo Martín Caminero (12 October | Nordkirchen Castle), he reinterprets pieces by important composers such as Alexander Borodin, Johannes Brahms, Maurice Ravel and John Williams.
In addition to the concerts, there will once again be a variety of art and dialogue events. For example, Burg Vischering in Lüdinghausen is showing the exhibition "Eduardo Chillida. The Search" (opening: 8 October). Chillida's graphic works show a move towards abstract form, similar to the shapes of his sculptures. His style is minimalist and reduced, characterised by basic geometric shapes that he models into complex structures. During a two-day pilgrimage, those interested can explore a section of the most famous pilgrimage route in Europe. The sections of the Way of St. James from Warendorf to Münster via Telgte will be explored on 18 and 19 October - including an overnight stay for the first time. Those interested can learn traditional flamenco themselves at a dance workshop (2 November) - no previous knowledge is necessary.
The full festival programme, tickets and further information are now available online at www.muensterland-festival.com. Interested parties can also order a programme booklet there and have it sent to their home free of charge.
