Your itinerary for the Werse-Ems river duet

Day 1

Journey to Münster

Don't miss the many sights of Münster, the cycling capital, at the start of your cycling tour. The centre of the city is the beautiful Prinzipalmarkt with its arcades. From here it is only a few minutes' walk to many sights. Take a look at the cathedral, visit the historic Friedenssaal (Peace Hall) or marvel at the excellent exhibitions in the State Museum of Art and Culture. In the evening, the countless restaurants in the city centre or in the trendy harbour district will entice you.

Day 2

Münster - Beckum (approx. 65 km)

The cycle tour takes you from the city to the "green" Münsterland within a few kilometres. After a few minutes' ride, you have already reached the Werse. You follow the signposted cycle path along the blue ribbon of the river to the south. Your first destination is the tranquil town of Drensteinfurt. The numerous castles and manor houses in the area bear witness to a lively past. Haus Steinfurt directly on the roadside or Haus Venne (approx. 4 km away) are worth a short detour.

Behind Drensteinfurt, the route leaves the Werse for a bit and leads flat through fields and meadows. The urban-looking town of Ahlen surprises with its rich cultural offerings - it is not for nothing that the Ahlen Art Museum is known far beyond the town's borders. The last section of the day takes the cyclists to Beckum. The Cement Museum provides an insight into the town's past. The "Phönix" activity park with the Phönixsee lake, on the other hand, illustrates the transformation into a liveable leisure and cultural town.

You can stay overnight either centrally in Beckum or in the beautiful district of Vellern.

Day 3

Beckum - Harsewinkel (approx. 48 km)

The WerseRadweg is also your companion on the third day through southern Münsterland. The first stop of the day is the town of Oelde. The Four Seasons Park is not only worth seeing for garden lovers. Quiet spots amid blossoms and flowers let you forget everyday life. Nearby is the beer museum of the Potts brewery, which is well worth seeing. Take some time for a tour and don't miss the fountain cinema and the brewery's treasure chamber.

Impressive, stately and picturesque are probably the right words for Rheda Castle, which awaits you in Rheda-Wiedenbrück. Enjoy the castle grounds on a tour of the gardens or on an open guided tour (in the summer months | group tours for 10 or more people all year round by appointment). The castle chapel and the historic wallpaper room are particularly worth seeing. Now it's "Goodbye Werse" and "Welcome Ems" Through the rural landscape you reach your overnight stop in Harsewinkel-Greffen.

Day 4

The old town of Warendorf The old town of Warendorf

Harsewinkel - Münster (approx. 57 km)

Today is dominated by the Ems. You will reach Warendorf on one of the most popular cycle paths in Germany, the EmsRadweg. The lively town surprises with its old town worth seeing, which is most beautiful around the market square. The NRW State Stud in Warendorf is world-famous for its stallion breeding. Housed in historic buildings, it is definitely worth a visit. Telgte, already within sight of Münster, will delight you. For many visitors, Telgte offers the most beautiful town centre in the region. Picturesque alleys alternate with small squares and play a large part in Telgte's appeal. A nice opportunity for a rest before the final stage to Münster. In Telgte you leave the Ems Cycle Path and soon reach Münster.
