Events in Reken

“Firmly set in the earth stands the mould, fired from clay...” “The Song of the Bell”. It is probably the best-known German poem by Friedrich Schiller, written in 1799, and you’ve probably all had to learn it by heart....

We’re off to Gescher, the ‘town of bells’. There, a guided tour of the Bell Museum awaits us. Afterwards, there’ll be delicious coffee and cake in the adjoining building.

We’ll meet in front of the office and travel in carpool groups. When registering, please let us know if you can drive, how many people you can take in your car, or if you need a lift. For all those who prefer to relax from everyday life in a group rather than alone, the municipality of Reken is once again offering guided after-work cycle tours between May and September. These take place on the 2nd and 4th Tuesday of every month and start at 6 pm. The tours cover around 25-30 kilometres on paved paths around Reken. The start is on 12/05/2026.

There are no costs and all you need to bring is your own bike, something to drink and suitable clothing. Registration is not necessary. Further information can be obtained from the Bürgerbüro (Tel. 02864 / 9440) or the Tourist-Info (Tel. 02864 / 944 035) in the town hall in Groß Reken. Participation is at your own risk.

Not just music from the Emerald Isle. In addition to some well-known pieces that are always popular, there are also songs that are rarely heard. The old ballads he has dug up are not part of the everyday repertoire, even in the countries of origin. The audience likes his witty announcements, in which he sometimes makes fun of the songs. Cycle tour to the ‘Small Mechanical Music Museum’ in Hiddingsel

including a talk, museum tour, demonstration of the instruments and a light lunch

Starting at 08:00 at St Elisabeth’s Church at Reken railway station, and/or at 08:30 at the Geisheide shelter in Hülsten.

The tour ends at the war cemetery in Maria-Veen

This tour is limited to 40 participants; places are allocated on a first-come, first-served basis.

Babak

He began teaching himself to play the keyboard in Iran at the age of 16. He founded his first band "Pop Music" with his two older brothers.

After coming to Germany in 2002, he began performing his music at various Persian events in restaurants, bars and weddings. He also worked with various well-known Persian singers. In 2003 he performed in the first Persian programme in Germany "Omide Iran" in Düsseldorf. He has always kept his enthusiasm for music with him and to this day he follows this passion.

A balmy summer evening, great live music, an entertaining film and all this with free admission!

On Friday, 14 August 2026, the municipality of Reken and Benediktushof Maria Veen invite you to an open-air cinema evening on the open-air area at Haus am See, Meisenweg 15, with free admission.

It starts with the supporting programme from 19:30. There will also be delicious drinks, snacks, ice cream and more to make the open-air cinema feeling perfect. The film starts at dusk, around 9 pm.

John Denver Revival

That's Robert Rickard and Detlev Fliß, they bring the songs of John Denver: e.g. Annie's Song, Leaving on a Jetplane, Rocky Mountain High and of course Country Roads and many others. We also have a few songs by Cat Stevens and Simon & Garfunkel, Pink Floyd and Westerhagen in our programme.
