The regional cultural profile for the RKP in Münsterland (formerly the mission statement) sums up the strengths and characteristics of our region. It serves as a guideline, orientation aid and stimulus for cultural actors and their projects. It is particularly important when applying for funding from the RKP - Regional Culture Programme NRW. In 2023 it was revised with the participation of cultural actors from various fields.
• a rich cultural landscape featuring museums, event venues, concert halls and theatres of various sizes, all of which excel in their fields,
• a diverse range of cultural activities, both analogue and digital, across all disciplines and often held in unusual venues,
• a population that is open-minded towards art and culture,
• citizens who volunteer their time for the arts and culture.
• the ‘Münsterland Park Landscape’ with its mix of pastures and fields, hedgerows, narrow ditches, small wooded areas and bodies of water,
• historic buildings, modern architecture, gardens and parks,
• an extensive network of cycle, horse riding and walking trails,
• a strong small and medium-sized business sector and a large number of industrial jobs.

Projects funded by the RKP are intended to provide social impetus against the backdrop of the Münsterland region’s cultural profile – even beyond the established norms. Funding is available for collaborative projects across all disciplines which, for example:
• have a widespread impact, particularly where urban and rural areas interact,
• initiate change and dare to experiment,
• are underpinned by partnership-based collaboration between various stakeholders,
• demonstrate openness to a diversity of experiences and levels of expertise, from amateur to professional,
• enable citizens and audiences to play an active role in shaping the projects,
• offer cultural education opportunities for all age groups through artistic projects,
• be supported by civic and voluntary engagement,
• incorporate the principles of inclusion, accessibility and diversity into project development,
• preserve cultural heritage, for example by staging events in historic buildings or parks,
• address current social issues,
• view art and culture as drivers of critical engagement,
• represent a long-term, sustainable enrichment of the cultural landscape.
This Regional Profile was drawn up in 2023 with the participation of: cultural stakeholders, artists, clubs and associations, cultural departments of local authorities, districts and the Regional Association of Westphalia-Lippe, the Münsterland Cultural Council, the Münsterland Cultural Office, Münsterland e.V., the Münster District Government, the Gütersloh Cultural Secretariat and the Ministry of Culture and Science of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia.
