Edge computing
We hardly ever notice the delay caused by the transmission path of the data in everyday life. However, it does exist and would lead to a delayed display of the content for latency-free real-time applications, for example the processing of data from AR glasses.
By using edge computing, data processing is brought to the edge of the network, which makes transmission much faster than transmission and processing at a central data centre. This is particularly interesting for IoT applications. Since edge computing allows data to remain in the network, this technology is particularly interesting for applications with special data security requirements. This makes it much easier for companies to meet compliance requirements.

Requirements
A sensor is needed that produces data, as well as a processing unit, for example a microcontroller. If the data is not only to remain in the network but is to be uploaded to a data centre, then a connection between the processing unit and the server is also required. IoT devices often use LPWan combined with a gateway that receives the data from the edge devices and forwards it to the server.
