Münsterland is located in the centre of Europe and in the federal state of North Rhine-Westphalia, which is the most populous of Germany's 16 federal states. The Münsterland stretches across the northern part of North Rhine-Westphalia - a region that extends from the upper edge of the Ruhr area, one of the country's largest and best-known industrial regions, to the border with Lower Saxony. It borders the Netherlands to the west, giving it a particularly interesting geographical location. With its four seasons, the climate in Münsterland is temperate and typical of the western part of Germany, making it a pleasant place to live all year round. The transitional seasons, spring and autumn, are quite mild, but there can be frequent rainfall. Spring brings a welcome change from the grey winter weather with slightly warmer temperatures and increasing sunshine, while autumn is known for its gentle temperatures and the beautiful colouring of the leaves. In summer, the weather is generally mild to warm, with temperatures often between 20 and 25 degrees Celsius. There can also be hotter days when temperatures rise above 30 degrees, but such heatwaves are usually not very long-lasting. The summer also often brings regular rainfall, which makes the climate pleasantly refreshing. Winter in Münsterland is rather mild compared to other regions in Germany. Temperatures are usually between 0 and 5 degrees Celsius, but it can also get colder and snow falls - especially in the colder months from December to February. However, the amount of snow is usually not very high.
The Münsterland is a region with a very good security situation, which stands out from other regions due to its low crime rate and is below the national average. It is a quiet and safe place, both for locals and visitors, with an overall good quality of life. Nevertheless, there are of course isolated criminal incidents in this region, as in all other areas, but the frequency is rather low.
The crime rate is particularly low in rural areas, while it is slightly higher, but still moderate, in cities such as Münster. The most common offences are thefts, burglaries and vandalism, while violent crimes are rare. Compared to larger cities, the Münsterland is a safer region.
