100 castles and more: Münsterland e.V. publishes final report on ERDF funding project
It was the largest tourism funding project in the Münsterland region to date: with support from the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF), Münsterland e.V. implemented the "Münsterland Castles and Palaces Region" project from 2019 to 2023 together with the four Münsterland districts, the city of Münster, 32 towns and municipalities and numerous other partners. Around ten million euros were invested in innovative and forward-looking projects. A final report now provides an overview and details of the individual components.
For the ERDF-funded project, the districts and the city of Münster realised the information and guidance system, which primarily includes information boards, equipment elements and the marking of the castles and fortresses for cycle and car traffic. They also coordinated the consultations with the castle and land owners as well as the towns and municipalities and were involved in the content of the project in a steering group. The towns, municipalities and the district of Warendorf have taken various measures to improve the infrastructure along the 100 Castles Route. Münsterland e.V. was responsible for the overall coordination of the project and the conceptual tasks for the information and guidance system. It was also responsible for marketing, expanding the SME networks and the "Quality of Experience" innovation workshop.
"The many positive responses and the increased interest in the palaces and castles region show how successful our measures are," says Michael Kösters, Head of Tourism at Münsterland e.V. "The key to success was the excellent cooperation throughout Münsterland. The project has shown in exemplary fashion what is possible in a regional network. We would like to thank everyone involved and look forward to continuing to develop the region together in the future."
