43,000 euros for a good cause: "RennFietsen Tour Münsterland" sets new record
The 17th "RennFietsen Tour Münsterland" ended on Sunday at Prinzipalmarkt in Münster with a record result: Around 40 participants covered around 600 kilometres on their racing bikes over four days - and collected more donations than ever before for children in need, raising 43,000 euros.
Tour leader Joachim Wechner was delighted with the results: "Our tour is an impressive demonstration of what community involvement can achieve. Behind us are intensive days full of sporting challenges, special encounters and real teamwork. We are proud that a record amount of donations has been raised - because this makes concrete help for children and young people possible."
Mayor Angela Stähler welcomed the team at Prinzipalmarkt and congratulated them on their successful tour. The traditional starting point on Thursday was Münster/Osnabrück Airport in Greven. From the Warendorf stage location, the subsequent rallies led across the Münsterland and neighbouring regions.
One hundred per cent of the donations will go to the AGAPEDIA foundation set up by former national football coach Jürgen Klinsmann and to roterkeil Senden e.V. The money will be used to support projects for children and young people in difficult life situations.
Kerstin Clev from Münsterland e.V., which supports the tour, also recognised the commitment of the participants: "Year after year, people get on their racing bikes for a good cause. This shows the strong connection to the region and the high value placed on voluntary work in the Münsterland."
