Easter holidays in Münsterland: cycle, experience nature and discover regional delights
The Easter holidays traditionally mark the start of the spring travel season in Münsterland. The Münsterland e.V. tourism centre receives numerous enquiries from holidaymakers who want to discover the region during these weeks. The latest figures for overnight stays also underline that Easter holidays in the Münsterland are popular.
"For many guests, the holidays are the long-awaited start to the cycling season: finally getting out and about again and enjoying nature. Farm holidays are particularly popular, and camping is also in high demand," reports Heidi Feige, Head of the Tourism Centre. In addition, interest in cosy holiday flats and personal excursion tips is high - which in turn often revolve around cycling, for example on the 100 Castles Route. "Holidays with horses are just as popular: whether it's a riding holiday on a farm, your first experience in the saddle or simply experiencing animals in nature," says Feige. She always recommends interested parties to visit the Dülmen wild horses in the Merfelder Bruch.
Most recently, more people travelled to the Münsterland around Easter: in the entire month of April 2025, a good 400,000 overnight stays were recorded, an increase of 4.6 percent compared to April 2024. Michael Kösters, Head of Tourism, explains: "Tourism figures are not available specifically for holiday periods. However, we are seeing a positive trend overall and hope to exceed these figures again in the future - even if external factors such as the weather play an important role."
More and more travellers are apparently using the Easter holidays for a holiday on their own doorstep to rediscover the diversity of Münsterland. And they appreciate the short journey times. Holidaymakers from the Netherlands, the Ruhr region, Emsland and the Hanover region, among others, often contact the tourism centre to enquire about a break in Münsterland. According to Feige, a classic question is about the best regional products - available, for example, in farm shops, cafés, restaurants and at picnic stations, which often offer fresh produce around the clock.
When asked for an excursion tip for the coming weeks, the tourism expert describes a day out in Rheine: "A walk in the Salinenpark is particularly relaxing in spring. It can also be combined with a visit to the NaturZoo and Bentlage Monastery."
