Guest at the Embassy of Spain: The Münsterland Festival presents itself in Berlin

Artist Lucia Fumero gave a foretaste of the diversity of the programme

The Münsterland Festival is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year and, with Spain as its guest country, is focusing on a top-class European cultural programme. The festival team led by Christine Sörries, Artistic Director, and Lars Krolik, Festival Director at Münsterland e.V., presented the programme and concept to around 100 guests at the Embassy of the Kingdom of Spain in Berlin yesterday. An exclusive concert by pianist, singer and composer Lucia Fumero provided a first musical taster of the diversity of the Spanish contributions.

The Münsterland Festival has been bringing international artists to the region in northern Westphalia for two decades. Each edition is dedicated to a European guest country and brings its music, art and culture to life in around 35 cities and communities. For the 13th edition from 4 October to 8 November, the focus will be on Spain.

"The extensive festival programme will contribute to an even broader and more up-to-date overall picture of Spanish culture and the present. Spain as Guest of Honour 2025 is intended to stimulate and encourage interest and curiosity," said José Luis Rodríguez de Colmenares, envoy of the Spanish Embassy in Berlin.

After the welcoming speeches, Christine Sörries and Lars Krolik took the guests on a journey through the Münsterland region. The focus was on the diversity of the programme, the musical contributions and the extraordinary venues of the decentralised festival.

Christine Sörries, Artistic Director of the festival, said: "The artists from Spain bring all their diversity and expressiveness to Münsterland. They open up new perspectives and turn every event into a double journey of discovery: through the culture of the host country and through the cultural treasures of our region." Festival director Lars Krolik added: "We want to paint an authentic picture of Spanish art and culture - full of surprises, encounters and new perspectives."

Lucia Fumero then presented her music, which fascinates with a combination of jazz, Catalan folk and Latin American rhythms. A reception with Spanish-Münsterland tapas rounded off the evening, which was also attended by Dr Matthias Roßbach, Plenipotentiary of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia to the Federal Government, and District President Andreas Bothe.
