Wide, flat and very green: that is the Münsterland - a paradise for hikers. On a total of around 3,000 kilometres of hiking trails, you can experience unforgettable tours. In anticipation of the summer, Münsterland e.V. has now published a new overview map on the subject of hiking.
The map contains tips and interesting facts as well as brief descriptions of the nine hiking routes listed. In addition to popular trails such as the Hermannsweg or the Westfälischer-Friede-Weg, lesser-known hiking routes such as the Teutoschleifen are also included. They include eight premium trails between six and 13 kilometres long, which follow the Hermannsweg in the Teutoburg Forest. On the so-called "Himmelsleiter" (ladder to heaven), for example, hikers can enjoy a wonderful view of the landscape.
The Max Clemens Canal Trail is included in the overview map for the first time. Nature and culture join hands on this trail: extensive sections through forests and fields alternate with parts of the Max Clemens Canal, which was built in the 18th century but never completed. Interested people can learn about its history, the course as well as the technical background on the information boards that are part of the cycle path of the same name.
"The topic of 'Hiking in Münsterland' is becoming increasingly popular," says Michael Kösters, general representative and tourism expert at Münsterland e.V. "The hiking map, which in addition to brief descriptions of the paths also includes a Münsterland map with the routes marked accordingly, offers a direct overview here."
Münsterland e.V. was supported in the creation of the overview map by Westfälischer Heimatbund e.V., which is in charge of the hiking trail network in Münsterland. The association also has a number of hiking tips that can be found at www.whb.nrw and in the free app "Wanderwege im Münsterland" (Hiking trails in Münsterland).
The overview map can be ordered free of charge from the Münsterland e.V. Service Centre at 02571 949392 or downloaded from the internet at www.muensterland-tourismus.de .
Ideas for walking holidays can also be found in the matching "Short Holidays" catalogue of Münsterland e.V.
