Kick-off to the finale of "Schilderwechsel": Opening of the presentation week in the Forum Altes Rathaus Borken

Half a century ago, the territorial reform changed the Münsterland region, and to mark the anniversary, it has been turned into art: in the Forum Altes Rathaus Borken (FARB) on Wednesday evening, 7 May, the Kulturbüro beim Münsterland e.V., together with around 60 guests, officially opened the presentation week of its project "Schilderwechsel - 50 Jahre Gebietsreform im Münsterland". Sarah Giese, Christoph Tiemann and Johannes Kraas presented the three-part podcast "Die Einkreisung" as a live radio play. This is about an invented criminal case in the newly created district of Borken amidst true events and, with its local colour, audibly awakened memories of the time 50 years ago in the audience.

"With 'Schilderwechsel', we show how exciting and multi-layered dealing with the territorial reform can be. The artists are also raising awareness of our shared regional development," said Andreas Grotendorst, board member of Münsterland e.V. and Head of Culture. Project manager Laura Säumenicht also emphasised the quality of the works: "Among other things, the project revolves around the question of how the regional reform has changed the region and what remains of it today."

Among the guests was District President Andreas Bothe. He emphasised the extensive work: "Through the 'Schilderwechsel' project, many artists have dealt intensively with the regional reform. They have spoken to people from politics, science and society, including many contemporary witnesses, and conducted intensive research. I am very pleased with the diverse project results and look forward to the presentation week."

Dr Georg Lunemann, Director of the Landschaftsverband Westfalen-Lippe (LWL) and Chairman of the Board of the LWL Cultural Foundation, emphasised: "The project is an outstanding building block in our cultural programme for the '1250 Years of Westphalia' anniversary. We are therefore delighted that a contribution from it will be part of the grand opening ceremony for the theme year on 15 May, which will be attended by the Federal President as patron of the cultural programme for the anniversary year." At this event, Chryssa Tsampazi will present a short performance of her "Aktion Bürgerwille neu" in Paderborn.

In summer 2024, an external jury of experts selected five artistic ideas for "Changing Signs", which have been realised across the region in recent months. One premiere after another is now scheduled during the presentation week - after Borken in Lüdinghausen, Münster, Greven and Warendorf. Admission to all events is free of charge.
