More sustainability in tourism: workshop with Münsterland stakeholders is just the beginning

On Thursday, 13 March, stakeholders from the region discussed how tourism offers and services in the Münsterland can be designed sustainably at Münster/Osnabrück Airport (FMO) in Greven. The workshop was organised by Münsterland e.V. as part of "Nachhaltigkeitswerkstatt.NRW", an ERDF-funded project under the leadership of Tourismus NRW e.V. The meeting marked the start of further measures.

"Sustainability is one of the key future topics in tourism. Guests increasingly expect environmentally friendly and responsible offers, while businesses are faced with the challenge of implementing sustainable concepts economically," said Michael Kösters, Head of Tourism at Münsterland e.V. The regional management organisation relies on proven cooperation to find practical solutions. "Only together can we succeed in advancing the Münsterland as a sustainable tourism region," he added.

The workshop was opened with a brief presentation of the "Nachhaltigkeitswerkstatt.NRW" funding project by Luise Rommerskirchen from Tourismus NRW e.V. and with introductions to the tourism concept and the Münsterland brand strategy by Michael Kösters and Selina Kroesemeijer from Münsterland e.V. In the workshop, the participants developed initial ideas for the Münsterland and identified suitable service providers for concrete implementation.

They were supported by Karsten Palme and Benjamin Zwack from the tourism consultancy co:compass in Cologne. The team of consultants provided valuable input on the topic of sustainability and moderated the workshop. "We are delighted to be able to support this process. The workshop showed that the stakeholders in tourism are very interested in seeing sustainability as an opportunity for sustainable and appreciative development," said Karsten Palme.

At the next workshop on 9 April in Münster, the aim is to jointly develop marketable and sustainable offers that take into account the three dimensions of sustainability and inspire guests. Anyone who would like to take part can register now by emailing obis@muensterland.com.
