Münsterland Festival 2027 with guest country France

"Westphalian Versailles" one of the numerous venues

The Münsterland region can look forward to a new edition of the Münsterland Festival in autumn 2027 - and a cultural trip to France. The renowned series of events, which brings music, art and dialogue from a European guest country to the region every two years, will bring the French music and cultural scene to life in a special atmosphere.

"France is our biggest neighbour and for many people it is also a land of longing. Despite all the differences, there are close ties and a strong cultural dialogue between us," says Artistic Director Christine Sörries. She emphasises: "At a time when cooperation, exchange and mutual understanding are more important than ever, it was precisely this proximity and the many cultural points of contact that inspired us to make France the guest country of the Münsterland Festival part 14."

A tongue-in-cheek reference to this proximity can be found in Münsterland itself. Lars Krolik, Festival Director at Münsterland e.V., says: "When people in Münsterland talk about the 'Westphalian Versailles', they naturally mean the magnificent Nordkirchen Palace. That's when you realise that France has actually been part of our region for a long time. So it's all the more fitting that we're welcoming France as our guest country at next year's Münsterland Festival."

France is regarded as one of the pulsating powerhouses for jazz and global music in Europe. The scene around Paris in particular has developed into a melting pot of cultures over the decades. Sörries explains: "France has a unique musical language - from jazz and chanson to a global music scene that characterises Paris. We want to bring this diversity from all over the country to Münsterland."

With its vibrant cultural scene, its courage to embrace artistic freedom and its deep cultural tradition, France is an ideal host country, says Krolik: "In addition to the music of France, we also want to showcase other facets of French culture and look forward to sharing this energy with our audience."

"Münsterland Festival meets BurgJazz" in June

If you don't want to wait until 2027, you can experience the festival atmosphere again soon: From 19 to 21 June 2026, Burg Vischering in Lüdinghausen will be transformed into a meeting place for jazz fans. At the three-day "Münsterland Festival meets BurgJazz", international jazz stars will take to the stage together with exciting new discoveries.

More about the Münsterland Festival

Since its foundation in 2005, the festival has brought international artists together with the special locations of the Münsterland region: historic moated castles, modern museums, former industrial buildings and intimate concert stages become the setting for extraordinary cultural encounters. With concerts of jazz, pop, folk and classical music, complemented by exhibitions, talks, excursions and more, a cultural dialogue is created between the Münsterland and Europe.

Long-standing sponsors of the Münsterland Festival include the Ministry of Culture and Science of North Rhine-Westphalia (RKP - Regional Culture Programme NRW funding programme), the districts of Münsterland (Borken, Coesfeld, Steinfurt, Warendorf), the City of Münster, the LWL, the Hilde & Bodo Crone-Stiftung, Sparkasse Münsterland Ost, Sparkasse Westmünsterland, Kreissparkasse Steinfurt, Stiftung Kunst & Kultur Münsterland, Kulturstiftung Masthoff, Bleker Gruppe, Pianohaus Micke and reiseart.
