Münsterland Festival part 13: Grand finale at Burg Vischering in Lüdinghausen

Spanish music and culture inspire the Münsterland region

Five weeks full of concerts, dialogues and discussions: The 13th edition of the Münsterland Festival came to an end at the weekend with a performance by Momi Maiga at Burg Vischering in Lüdinghausen. More than 4000 visitors attended the numerous events in Münsterland. This time, the guest country Spain took centre stage. Under the motto "Flamenco with Flamingos", Münsterland e.V. organised around 50 events at around 35 locations in the region. The concert by Momi Maiga on Saturday marked the grandiose and successful finale.

"We are more than satisfied with the response to the Münsterland Festival. The figures prove us right that we have once again organised a successful edition this year. Our many loyal visitors, but also newcomers, joined us on a voyage of discovery across the Iberian Peninsula," says festival director at Münsterland e.V., Lars Krolik. An average occupancy rate of 80 per cent at the venues is very positive. He is particularly pleased that new venues such as the Falkenhof Museum in Rheine - even as the opening venue - and the B-Side in Münster were also involved and impressed.

Christine Sörries, the artistic director of the festival, draws a consistently positive conclusion. She not only looks back on the successful edition with Spain, but also on the entire history of the festival. She says: "20 years of 'Europa im Münsterland' stand for great discoveries that have a lasting effect, for encounters that give us a different view of our neighbours, and for the joy of diversity that enriches and connects. From jazz to classical music to flamenco, the breadth of Spanish culture has built bridges and shown once again how inspiring it is to look beyond one's own borders."

Looking at the programme, there was not just one highlight, but many: The concert by Catalan pianist Clara Peya, whose "punk-romantic" style moved the audience, was particularly moving. The PAUSE Duo also created a moment of calm and introspection with their atmospheric soundscapes. The energetic performances by Marco Mezquida and Daniel García captivated the audience with their virtuosity and joy of playing, while Andrés Barrios impressively demonstrated how deeply emotion and tradition intertwine with his passionate flamenco piano. The flamenco workshop "El patio andaluz" and the country tours, which were organised in cooperation with RESET e.V., also proved particularly popular with the audience.

Even after the finale, the Münsterland Festival at Burg Vischering in Lüdinghausen will continue to have a presence. On Saturday, in the run-up to Momi Maiga's final concert, the vernissage of "Eduardo Chillida. The Search" took place. The Spanish artist's works can be seen until Sunday, 18 January.

The variety of events was made possible by a large number of sponsors and supporters, including in particular the state of NRW with funds from the Regional Culture Programme (RKP). Lars Krolik says: "A big thank you also goes to our local partners. It is only thanks to everyone's commitment that the festival has once again become a joint Münsterland project."
