Right-wing populism in the cultural sector: the Münsterland Cultural Academy offers advice on how to conduct oneself confidently
From aggressive online backlashes on social media, through to overt disruptions at events, right through to problematic enquiries directed at cultural institutions: far-right and right-wing populist views are increasingly presenting cultural practitioners with tangible challenges. The Kulturbüro des Münsterland e.V. will demonstrate how those affected can take a stand and act with confidence in a seminar as part of the Kulturakademie Münsterland continuing education programme on Wednesday 7 October, from 9.30 am to 2.30 pm at the Kreativ-Haus, Room 6, Diepenbrockstr. 28 in Münster.
The workshop will address various forms of far-right influence, both in public relations work and in the event management of cultural institutions. Typical situations will be discussed to help participants feel more confident in their day-to-day professional lives. A joint clarification of terminology will lay the groundwork for a better understanding of phenomena such as right-wing extremism and related social movements. In addition, various support services will be presented.
This practice-oriented event is aimed at staff in the cultural sector who are primarily involved in public relations, programme planning, and the planning and organisation of cultural events. Participants’ own experiences, questions and specific case studies will be incorporated into the seminar.
The speakers are from ‘mobim – Mobile Advice Service in the Münster Administrative District against Right-wing Extremism’. mobim offers support and advice on dealing with right-wing extremism and racism. Its main tasks include advising people who are committed to promoting a democratic culture or who have to deal with incidents of right-wing extremism.
The participation fee is 15 euros (including refreshments during the seminar and a light lunch). The registration deadline is Wednesday 30 September. Further information and the registration form can be found at:
