Cycling Tour City - Land - River

On the first day, you start from Vreden on the 45-kilometre tour towards the Netherlands. Shortly after Vreden, you will reach Eibergen, located in a landscape rich in water with extraordinary views. Fields, meadows and forests are separated by streams, hedges or groups of trees. A stop at the Mallumse Molen is recommended. Afterwards, the town of Borculo awaits you with pure nature and a noble touch. You should not miss out on real Borculo beer and numerous cultural highlights, such as a photo tour of the town and the crystal or fire brigade museum. Now it's about 6.5 kilometres to Ruurlo, where you'll spend the night in a romantic hotel. Extra tip: You should not leave Ruurlo without visiting Kasteel Ruurlo.

Well rested and refreshed, we can now set off on the second stage of the day. Almost 70 kilometres through the Dutch Achterhoek and back to Germany. First you reach the fortified town of Groenlo. Even on the city map you can still see the fortifications. The town of Winterswijk will delight you with its typical Dutch small-town charm. The lively market square with café terraces and a wide range of shops will win you over. About 14 kilometres past the centre of Winterswijk, you will reach the Steengrove, a quarry that also serves as an event backdrop, before you cross the border again. You will pass through the district of Oeding and the border community of Südlohn before reaching the bell town of Gescher and your destination for the day.

Today's stage is only about 25 kilometres. You therefore have enough time to explore the towns along the route or to add a 30-kilometre cycle tour through the Vreden nature reserves.
You start in the bell town of Gescher, which owes its name to the bell-founding tradition. It is only natural that the Westphalian Bell Museum is also located in Gescher. The cycle path continues along the Berkel meadows to Stadtlohn. The rich history of the town can still be seen today in various historical buildings. Shortly before you reach the town centre, you will be greeted by the Berkelsee lake in Vreden. In the town centre, the first silhouette museum, the kult cultural-historical centre and the Westmünsterländer Hofanlage (Westmünsterland farmstead) are cultural highlights awaiting you. Once you have arrived in the town centre, you can decide for yourself whether you would like to visit the Vreden nature reserves and church villages on the approximately 30-kilometre-long NaturTour or whether you would prefer to look back on your journey through the border region in one of the cafés on the market square.
