True to the motto ‘Oldies play oldies’, the beer garden at Haus Pöpsel aims to rekindle the nostalgia of the old beat club days by singing along or dancing to the sounds of the Kinks, the Bee Gees and others – the perfect remedy for a summer’s evening.

"Back to the Roots" on stage in the beer garden at Haus Pöpsel. The band has been an integral part of the regional music scene for almost 35 years and is known for its carefully curated, sophisticated set list of rock classics and songs from music history that are sure to get the crowd grooving. Following their relaunch with a new line-up in 2025, the band looks back with great satisfaction on their performances to date and the gigs to come. “What comes across is our enjoyment of the music and playing together – even if a slightly different version sometimes emerges spontaneously during a live performance. “That’s what live music is all about,” says guitarist and singer Michael Pfannkuche.

Colourful hustle and bustle and a good mood

Over 240 showmen on an area of almost 25,000 square metres form the impressive setting for the Lippborg Market, one of the most traditional folk festivals in Westphalia. The 325th anniversary was celebrated in 2018.

The first church in Herzfeld was built around 790 by Ida, the wife of the Saxon Duke Egbert, who was canonised in 980. The foundations of the church can be seen in the remarkable crypt of the current church, which was built in 1903 and contains the tomb of the saint. St Ida, niece of Charlemagne, was the progenitor of the Saxon royal family. Her grave - a national and religious monument - was and is the destination of numerous pilgrims.

 Haus Assen was first mentioned in a document 650 years ago, on 26 September 1376. Just in time for this special anniversary, Brother Peter Münch SJM, together with many volunteers, has researched and compiled the first comprehensive overview of the house’s historical development, its owner families and its estates.

 On 11 September 2026 at 4.00 pm, this fascinating book will be presented by the author and the editor in the grand salon of Haus Assen. Afterwards, the book – comprising 104 richly illustrated pages – will be available to purchase for 15 euros.

Presenter Mario Siegesmund welcomes various comedians who want to put the audience's laughing muscles to the test.

On Monument Day, guests can visit the inner park at Haus Assen. There will be guided tours of the castle courtyard, the chapel and some of the rooms at 2.00 pm and 3.30 pm. The Friends' Association will be selling cold drinks and offering coffee. Admission is free on this day!
