In the footsteps of great traders

Walk in the footsteps of the Tüötten and listen to legendary stories in the state-recognised resort of Mettingen. Close to the border with Lower Saxony, Mettingen and its surroundings offer many holiday ideas.

Perfect for walking

The Tüöttenmuseum in Mettingen tells exciting stories about the lives of itinerant merchants. They often passed through Mettingen on their way from Osnabrück to the Netherlands and helped shape life there for a long time. You can do the same and discover the recreational area on the southern slope of the Teutoburg Forest on foot. Another great hiking tip is the 4.8 km long Teutoschleifchen Köllbachtal. The idyllic valley is only a few steps away from the town centre.

Great opportunities for cyclists

Of course, cyclists will also find numerous routes here. For example, cycle paths lead to Ibbenbüren, where you can experience several museums and parks. The beautiful city centre of Osnabrück can also be easily reached by bike. Even inline skaters or Nordic walkers will find "their" pättkes in Mettingen.

We have tested the Draiflessen Collection for you

Fancy a very special visit to a museum? The small town of Mettingen is home to one of the most impressive art museums in the region: the Draiflessen Collection. Originally started as a private collection of the Brenninkmeyer family, it is now open to the public. Our colleague Lars took a closer look at the exhibition and reports on his visit on the MünsterlandBlog.
