Draiflessen Collection

Great art in a small community: In Mettingen, far away from the big metropolises, the Draiflessen Collection invites you to experience art and culture in a very special atmosphere. The museum combines history with zeitgeist and surprises visitors with changing exhibitions on moving themes. Here, people don't just look, they scrutinise, discover and rethink.

Each exhibition is complemented by an extensive accompanying programme as well as specific educational programmes and workshops for adults, children and families. Guided tours are also offered for people with special needs, such as those with dementia and their relatives. In addition, the "Draiflessen Conference" event centre is located on the site, where concerts and other exciting cultural events take place.

Art, history, home

The Draiflessen Collection was founded in 2009 by the Brenninkmeijer family - where their ancestors, the Tüötten, once travelled through Germany and Northern Europe as Westphalian itinerant traders to trade in linen. This is why the name of the museum was derived from the old secret language of the Tüötten: "drai" (meaning: three, trinity, turn, trade) and "flessen" (meaning: flax, linen, home).

In addition to the exhibitions, the Liberna Collection has complemented the museum since 2012: an impressive collection of more than 4,000 culturally and historically valuable objects - including medieval manuscripts, illustrated incunabula, prints and paintings. The focus is on the 15th to 17th centuries, with exhibits that provide insights into the thinking and aesthetics of past centuries. More in-depth access is possible for those interested in science by prior appointment.

Another component since 2018 is THE Forum: an archive in which objects, documents and evidence of the Brenninkmeijer family and company history are collected, preserved, documented, scientifically researched and exhibited.

With its extraordinary collection, its content and its idyllic location in Tecklenburg Land, the Draiflessen Collection is always worth a visit!
