In September, the parish church of St Ludgerus will once again become a meeting place for lovers of organ music. On four consecutive Sundays, the ‘Ludgerus-Klänge’ concert series invites you to enjoy a varied programme of music played on the historic Walcker organ. The concerts all begin at 6.30 pm. Admission is free, but donations to support church music are welcome.

The focus is on the parish church’s grand Walcker organ, which was built in 1913 and has thus been shaping the sound of organ music for more than a century. Visitors can look forward to the full range of organ repertoire: modern and surprising compositions (including works by Gaston Litaize) are juxtaposed with great classics, and festive, magnificent sounds (such as those by Dietrich Buxtehude) with calm and contemplative works. These four concerts thus demonstrate just how versatile the organ – often referred to as the ‘Queen of Instruments’ – can be.

On Sunday 13 September, Weseke’s cantor Samuel Ellers will take his place at the console himself. Ellers grew up in Weseke and received his training in church music in Münster, Ibbenbüren and Herford. He went on to undertake postgraduate studies at the College of Church Music in Herford; he also attended a masterclass in organ improvisation with Christiane Michel-Ostertun. Since March 2023, he has been a full-time church musician and cantor at the parish of St Ludgerus in Borken. Alongside his work as an organist, he conducts several choirs, founded the ‘Ludgerus-Klänge’ concert series, and is often heard performing in organ concerts, including at events beyond the local area.

Invitation to the wine and gourmet market in Oeding

A feast for the senses in the redesigned town hall area

Look forward to two days full of culinary delights and fine wines at the wine and gourmet market in Oeding. On Friday 25 and Saturday 26 September, the town hall courtyard will open its doors for a very special event:

Sample an exquisite selection of wines and savour delicious food that invites you to linger and feast. There is something for every taste, from cocktails to liqueurs, from cheese to tarte flambée to antipasti - the gourmet's heart will beat faster. The redesigned town hall surroundings offer the perfect ambience to toast and celebrate the completion in a cosy atmosphere.

In this context, the municipality of Südlohn would like to take the opportunity to hand over the town hall square, which has been partially redesigned with funding, for its intended purpose. A short official opening is planned for Friday, 25 September 2025 at 16:00 at the town hall by Mayor Werner Stödtke as part of the wine and gourmet market. Enjoy the new quality of life around the town hall in Oeding.

The municipality of Südlohn, SOMIT and Fred Bischop with his Flapi-Mobil and the Foodbase cordially invite you to be part of this special event. They look forward to spending two gourmet days with you. Visit the wine and gourmet market, discover new favourite wines and be enchanted by the culinary delights.

The family flea market takes place on the town hall forecourt. Of course, private vendors can spontaneously join in. Just drop by, unpack your things and top up your pocket money. As always, the stalls are free of charge.

All in all, the Autumn Mile offers plenty for families to discover: There are exciting hands-on activities between the town hall and the ice cream parlour. At the Südlohn municipality stand, children and adults can pedal hard and generate electricity with their muscle power. The self-generated electricity is used to power a bubble machine and racing cars on a carrera track. Two cyclists can compete against each other in a race on the car racing track with bicycle drive. The Schlingefietse, the cargo bike of the municipality of Südlohn, can also be tested on the Autumn Mile. There will also be a giant bouncy castle where young visitors can have fun - free of charge, of course.

In keeping with the bicycle theme, the marketing and tourism association SOMIT e.V. will also be moving its tourist information centre to the fairground on this day and providing tips for particularly successful excursions in and around Südlohn.

Of course, the community centre of the local history association will also be open again. For those interested in history, there will be exciting insights into Oeding's past. But of course there are also many current projects to admire.

To round off the series, Markus Wolf from Regensburg will be travelling to Weseke on Sunday 27 September. Wolf is a church musician and a trained organ and harmonium builder. He therefore knows the organ not only from the perspective of a performer, but also as an instrument that is technically and artisanally demanding. For more than three years, he served as organist at the church foundations in Ottering, Lengthal, Rimbach and Dornwang. At the start of 2026, he moved to Regensburg Cathedral.

Strolling fun on 25 October: The Sunday sales open from 1 pm to 6 pm. From the small Südwest shopping centre right on the state border to Baumwollstraße, the members of the Oeding trade association are looking forward to welcoming many visitors to Oeding. Retailers open their doors and offer attractive promotions and discounts along the approximately 1.6-kilometre-long Autumn Mile. Of course, there will also be plenty to eat and drink on this Sunday. There are numerous opportunities to quench your hunger and thirst. So you can safely leave the kitchen at home cold. Why not round off the day in the local catering establishments, perhaps even in the open air if the weather plays ball.

The family flea market takes place on the town hall forecourt. Of course, private vendors can spontaneously take part. Just drop by, unpack your things and top up your pocket money. As always, the stalls are free of charge.

On 28 November, from 3 pm, it will once again be a cosy pre-Christmas time in Südlohn's parlour. Pastor Scho and Mayor Lask will ring in the Christmas market around St Vitus Church and officially start the pre-Christmas season in Südlohn. From 5.00 p.m., it gets exciting for the little ones as St Nicholas and his servant Ruprecht mingle with the people with a handcart and a sack full of sweet presents for a good cause. This year, the donations are destined for the Weseke children's cancer charity.

Around the St. Vitus Church, local clubs and associations in particular will be providing creative ideas for food and drink, suitable Advent decorations and a cosy get-together at the start of the first Advent weekend. From Christmas biscuits to New Year's croissants or honey from beekeepers to the obligatory Christmas drink - there's plenty to eat and drink at home. Handicrafts, woodwork and stylish decorations are just waiting to find the right place in visitors' parlours. An attraction for younger visitors is the brightly lit children's carousel.

After a successful start last year, the Südlohn curling event will once again take place in the beer garden of the Hotel and Gasthaus Nagel from 2 p.m. The rink can be booked on an hourly basis at hotel-nagel.de. Further information can be found on the homepage and on the Facebook page of the Hotel and Gasthaus Nagel.

The Ghana-Kreis Südlohn is once again opening the Advent café in Haus Wilmers during the Christmas market. Anyone who would like to enjoy delicious coffee and wonderful, home-baked cakes and tarts in a cosy atmosphere is cordially invited from 2 pm.

The Südlohn local history association will be selling hand-forged art objects with motifs of the Südlohn skyline from Robers Leuchten in front of the St Vitus parish hall.

Advent sounds with trombones and trumpets will also be heard outside in the late afternoon from around 5 pm. The "Christmas ensemble" of the Südlohn music band provides the right Christmas atmosphere "every year again" with mulled wine, punch or hot chocolate.

Once again this year, the Advent get-together will take place on the 2nd Sunday in Advent from 1 pm in the well-known romantic ambience of Oedingen Castle. This special ensemble creates a pre-Christmas atmosphere for young and old alike.

True to the community motto "active together", the volunteers from the local and regional associations in Oeding ensure cosiness and variety. Visitors to the Advent get-together can expect a festive atmosphere full of culinary delights and a variety of handicrafts. There are savoury sausages on offer, the aroma of which wafts through the alleyways, as well as warming mulled wine and children's punch to ensure cosy moments. Those with a sweet tooth can look forward to delicious crêpes, while lovers of savoury flavours can enjoy freshly prepared mushrooms.

In addition to the culinary highlights, there is also a wide range of handmade knitwear to keep you cosy and warm on cold winter days. Various stalls also offer homemade jams, ideal as gifts or for snacking yourself.

Of course, the "Christmas ensemble" of the Südlohn music band with the tower brass band and the visit of St Nicholas - as always at the special invitation of Heinrich Bäßmann, the "founding father" of the local Advent market - are a must at the Advent get-together. St Nicholas comes with his servant Ruprecht, a handcart and a sack full of sweet gifts, which he mixes in with the people for a good cause. This year, the donations are destined for the Weseke children's cancer charity.

"Small but nice" - with these attributes, this Advent microcosm of stalls, booths, small stands and activity areas has long since made a name for itself and attracts not only local visitors, but also guests from near and far.

The Oedinger Advents-Treff can also be easily reached with the Cotton Express.
