Westerkappeln Tractor Museum

Welcome to the Westerkappeln Tractor Museum! Here, the heart of technology enthusiasts beats faster. Immerse yourself in the world of historical agricultural machinery and discover an impressive collection of around 30 tractors.

In four exhibition units, the exhibits on display impressively document the development of the tractor from a towing vehicle to a universal tractor. The exhibits include both classics and rarities, including various Güldner, Hanomag and Deutz models from the 1950s. The 12 hp Lanz Bulldog is the oldest tractor in the collection. You can also discover a range of equipment that was used to thresh grain in the past - for example a flail thresher that was in use until the beginning of the 20th century or a combine harvester.

The Westerkappeln Tractor Museum also caters for your physical well-being. After visiting the exhibition, you can take a break in the hallway of a cosy barn and fortify yourself with coffee and cake.

A museum by chance

It all started with an old Lanz Bulldog farm tractor. The now deceased farmer Friedrich Frehmeyer received it as a gift from his neighbour and repaired it. But it was not to remain just a tractor. Over the course of 30 years, Frehmeyer collected numerous tractors and agricultural implements. In order to preserve the collection and present it in a museum, the Tractor Museum Association was founded in 1986, which is mainly supported by the municipality of Westerkappeln. At great financial expense, the association had a museum concept drawn up in 1991 and carried out the refurbishment of the museum. The museum was opened in 1992.

However, many of the exhibits are not just for looking at: you can experience the machines in action at regular demonstrations and events . You can also request an individual group tour from the association.

Insider tip

Special events

Several times a year, the active members of the support association organise classic car meetings and special events at the museum together with the Tecklenburger Land old tractor friends. In May, the field days with a vintage car show take place, in September the threshing days with potato harvest and vintage car show.
