Art

On display are impressive works by the photographers Simone Baumeister and Christiane Hoke, who often go on photo hunts together. Particularly pleasing: Simone Baumeister was recently honoured with the prestigious international "Wildlife Photographer of the Year" award from the Natural History Museum in London. Simone Baumeister's photographic work deliberately focuses on nature right on her own doorstep. Her photographs are mainly taken in her home environment - on forays through forests, meadows, moors and low mountain landscapes. She often devotes herself to individual animal species in long-term projects, combining intensive observation of nature with a high artistic standard. Christiane Hoke also combines her great passion for nature with photography. With her camera as her constant companion, she observes her surroundings attentively and captures special moments. Her pictures invite us to rediscover and appreciate the beauty of nature.

The exhibition can be seen in the museum until Sunday 26 July. The photographs can be viewed from 22 March on Saturdays and Sundays from 2 to 5 pm.

MIX & MATCH. Insights into a collection cosmos
20.05.2026, 11:00 18.10.2026, 17:00
Draiflessen, Mettingen
Exhibition

In the MIX & MATCH exhibition, the Draiflessen Collection's archive and collection come together in four cross-epochal and cross-media themed rooms and provide an insight into our collection cosmos. The joint exhibition in the Study Hall and DAS Forum invites visitors to discover our collections and make new, sometimes completely unexpected connections between the objects and eras. It presents our diverse collections in an associative order. The four basic elements of westernised culture - earth, fire, air and water - serve as a narrative leitmotif: they structure the tour, sharpen the eye for materials and themes and manage to build bridges between exhibits that at first glance appear to have nothing to do with each other. The idea of explaining the world with these four basic elements dates back to ancient Greece and is still an idea that is present in science, art and culture in many different ways. Highlights of printmaking and book art are shown alongside photographs, film and advertising material from the history of C&A and the entrepreneurial Brenninkmeijer family. Iconic fashion pieces join contemporary art and documents from the archive. Associations with the elements are playfully released, which can not only reorganise museum viewing habits, but also everyday perception.

State Palaeontological Exhibition at the LWL Museum of Natural History New exhibition on the history of the Earth opens in Münster on 10 July 2026
10.07.2026, 09:00 07.08.2026, 18:00
LWL Museum of Natural History, Münster
Organiser: LWL-Museum für Naturkunde mit Planetarium
Exhibition

A new exhibition is on display at the LWL Museum of Natural History in Münster. Under the title “Surviving between Dinosaurs and Scaly Trees”, the museum uses numerous fossils, models, skeletons and visualisations to show just how diverse life in North Rhine-Westphalia has been over many millions of years. The exhibition forms part of the State Palaeontological Exhibition of North Rhine-Westphalia. The exhibition can be seen at the LWL Museum in Münster until 5 September 2027.

Background:
The project “Survival between Dinosaurs and Scaly Trees” is funded by the LWL Cultural Foundation. It forms part of the cultural programme for the anniversary celebration of “1250 Years of Westphalia”, which will be celebrated in 2025 under the patronage of Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier and whose effects will be felt well into 2026. The exhibition is also sponsored by Sparkasse Münsterland Ost. The North Rhine-Westphalia State Palaeontological Exhibition is a joint exhibition project organised by the Ruhr Museum, the LWL Museum of Natural History and the Lippisches Landesmuseum Detmold. The project is initiated and funded by the Ministry for Home Affairs, Local Government, Construction and Digitalisation of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia. From April 2026 to September 2027, the three museums will present a series of exhibitions exploring the transformation of life over vast periods of time, from prehistoric plant life through to dinosaurs and the animals of the Ice Age.
