The Allwetterzoo Münster is not only one of the best-known zoos in Germany, but also one of the most beautiful. And when the weather throws a spanner in the works for visitors at other zoos, many animals can be observed on dry feet at the Allwetterzoo.
Where else in Münsterland can you feed elephants or accompany penguins on a walk than at the Allwetterzoo? The zoo in the cathedral city is now even known nationwide for its closeness to animals. Not least, 100 episodes of the ARD series "Penguin, Lion & Co." have contributed to the fact that Bavarian or Saxon cars are increasingly parked in front of the zoo. Around 600,000 visitors are attracted to the all-weather zoo every year.
The Allwetterzoo has even more to offer than approx. 3,000 animals and a good 300 animal species. The Westphalian Horse Museum in the middle of the zoo is unique. The museum, which is well worth seeing, is dedicated to the natural and cultural history of the horse. On an area of 1,000 square metres, visitors are invited on a voyage of discovery through the permanent exhibition. Highly frequented special exhibitions, such as "Photographer of the year 2019", are the highlights of the museum's programme. Horses in action can be experienced in the neighbouring "Hippomaxx" arena.
The seal harbour also promises a lot of action. Several times a day, the Californian sea lions perform here. Admission to the Allwetterzoo also includes access to the Westphalian Horse Museum and the Seal Haven.

On around 1,000 square metres, visitors can travel into the past, present and future. The public experiences the climate system of our earth and explores the climatic past of Westphalia and the entire planet. Guests immerse themselves in the world of climate research, discover themselves as researchers:in what information different climate archives such as ice cores or stalactites contain about past climate. Visitors learn how climate models work and what they say about our future.
The Sternfreunde Münster invite you to take a look at the starry sky as it will appear over Münsterland in the course of the year 2024.
Star friend Jürgen Stockel will explain the constellations emerging over the four seasons - from Orion to Leo and Swan to Andromeda. Hidden in these constellations are wonderful deep-sky objects: gas nebulae, galaxies, star clusters and remnants of stellar explosions. Using a few selected examples, these types of objects are presented in huge photographs that fill the planetarium dome.
Where can eclipses and occultations be seen in 2024? Will there be close encounters of planets? Will the newly discovered comet C/2023 A3 be the astronomical highlight in 2024? There will also be answers to these questions.
-Admission to the Planetarium is free for all visitors to the Sternfreunde event!
The observation evening begins with a telescopic view of the planet Jupiter and its moons. The Earth's moon, which has been waxing for 11 days, shows its large-scale mare. The star clusters M35, M36, M37, the Perseus Cluster (MEL20) and the Orion Nebula can also be observed.
-The telescopes are provided by the members of the association on a voluntary basis
-Important: The event can only take place under clear skies. Please check our website before your visit. -Location: In the park area directly behind the LWL-Museum für Naturkunde, 48161-Münster
If the telescope is stuck, first-hand advice often helps. On this evening, the Sternfreunde offer all skywatchers (including non-members) help with the operation or repair of observation devices. And anyone who is just thinking about buying a telescope can get tips on this evening to avoid expensive mistakes. Bring your telescopes! Participation is free of charge.
