RKP projects 2025

In 2024, more artists and cultural practitioners applied for funding from the RKP - Regional Culture Programme NRW than ever before. The Münsterland Cultural Council met in autumn 2024 and discussed 41 exciting concepts from the visual arts, film, literature, music, socioculture and theatre. The Ministry of Culture and Science awarded the funding on the basis of the resulting ranking. Below you will find an overview of the selected art and cultural projects that will be realised in Münsterland in 2025 as part of the RKP. In addition to the 23 new formats, there are seven other projects that have already received a funding recommendation in 2023 and will be realised or continued this year.

Where are the geographical and personal centres in the municipalities of Münsterland? How are cartographic and emotional centres connected? The Atlas of Centres project by Alexander Edisherov and Katerina Kuznetcowa addresses these questions by creating a digital map to document geographical and subjective centres. In addition, there are participatory events that promote a direct dialogue with citizens and allow local identities to flow into the project.

The Baroness

"Die Baronesse" (AT) is a fictional short film (approx. 15 minutes) in the genre of the horror tale with a black humour touch. The short film takes a critical look at male chauvinism and toxic masculinity.
The story is based on an old Münsterland fairy tale, according to which the castle in Rhede is haunted by a ghost in the form of a beautiful young woman - "the white lady".

Klangwelt Kreis Steinfurt

The Klangwelt Kreis Steinfurt project is developing an "acoustic DNA" of the communities in the district of Steinfurt. To this end, the sounds of different places in the region are recorded using a mobile recording device. This could be the sound of buildings, nature, technology or language, for example. The different sounds are then to be moulded into a sound experience, the acoustic footprint. The project is accompanied by a specially created website for communication, information and co-design.

Neighbourhood concerts 4.0

In the heart of the Euregio Twente-Münsterland, the "Neighbourhood Concerts 4.0" will unfold their splendour in 2024. These concerts are a celebration of cultural diversity and the courage to cross musical and literary borders. Artists from both regions weave a diverse programme that embraces both traditional and avant-garde themes, creating a space for encounters and inspiration. A living testament to socio-cultural richness that brings communities together and celebrates the power of art.

Changing signs - 50 years of regional reform in Münsterland

On 1 January 1975, a reform of the century comes into force in Münsterland. Numerous local authority and district boundaries are shifted, place-name signs are replaced and areas of life change from one day to the next. The territorial reform digs deep into the region's cultural identity. To mark its 50th anniversary, the Kulturbüro Münsterland is looking for artistic projects from various disciplines that deal with the effects of the reorganisation. The projects will be prepared in 2024 and realised in early 2025. The highlight and conclusion will be the joint presentation week from 7-11 May 2025.

Interwoven landscapes

What significance do the elements of water, earth and air have for the Schöppingen area? What artistic inspiration comes from these elements? These are some of the questions that the Schöppingen artists' village is exploring with the Interwoven Landscapes project. The special features and artistic potential of the various materials are to be explored through research. A two-day seminar with excursion and artistic workshop will be organised for each of the three elements.

The project does outreach, artistic youth work in cooperation with youth centres in Münsterland. It travels to locations in the region with its own stage lorry. Based on the principle of "by those affected for those affected" by intersectional discrimination such as sexism, racism, ableism and homophobia, the project is aimed in particular at young BIPoC-FINTA*. Impulse workshops are offered in the disciplines of rap, dance and graffiti with the aim of creating the evening show on the lorry stage.

In the medium term, Stadt.Land.Bühne is building a network that links the specific cultural needs of the municipalities in Münsterland with Münster's independent cultural scene and identifies and utilises the resulting opportunities. Niches and gaps in the cultural offering are discovered and utilised artistically. New and unusual venues are explored and opened up.

Europe's woodwind festival Summerwinds blows through the Münsterland region for the seventh time in 2024! From June to September, the audience can look forward to around 35 concerts of classical, crossover and world music. In diverse, traditional and original ensemble constellations, the diversity, colourfulness and wealth of innovation of the woodwind scene can be experienced. A festival focussing on woodwind instruments is unique in Europe. Summerwinds offers programmes with music from the Renaissance to the present day with internationally renowned soloists and ensembles, with big names, but also rising stars and performers who are considered insider tips.

Mats on the floor - let's go! Due to the high demand in the last two years, the project will also offer children's theatre performances directly on site in 2024, both indoors and outdoors. The performances offered by the Don Kidschote theatre from Münster, the Hille Puppille puppet theatre from Dülmen and the Krokodil theatre from Tecklenburg are aimed at nurseries, primary and special schools, initiatives and leisure centres, as well as with a new focus on the smallest institutions in rural Münsterland.
