Rapid prototyping
Rapid prototyping is the use of additive manufacturing processes to produce prototypes or samples. Similar to the production of special tools, the production of prototypes is often associated with high costs, as suitable machines must first be purchased or converted. Additive manufacturing methods can be used to counteract these circumstances. In this way, a sample can be created directly from the CAD model without having to design and build tools or moulds in advance.

Prerequisites for use
Know-how in the application
A certain amount of know-how is necessary for the use of additive manufacturing processes. This includes the areas of design, material selection and manufacturing.
Make-or-buy decision
Numerous providers offer their services in the field of rapid prototyping on the market. These have the relevant expertise and the necessary machines. Therefore, the purchase of prototypes by means of rapid prototyping or the in-house production of these should be weighed up.
