Mass spectrometry
Mass spectrometry refers to a method for measuring the mass of molecules such as the quantitative determination of nanoparticles in identified cells and tissues. There are very different techniques, depending on the effort, application and accuracy. Mass spectrometric techniques are often coupled with other methods, e.g. to improve the detection limit of a method. The basic principle of mass spectrometry is charged particles (ions) can be deflected from their trajectory under vacuum in a magnetic field. This allows a mass-dependent selection to be carried out.
