A community in the countryside between the nature park and the mountains

Heiden is located in the district of Borken, only 15 minutes from the district capital. Münster and Dortmund are about an hour's drive away, as are Münster/Osnabrück (FMO) and Weeze airports. Heiden is also the perfect starting point for trips to the Netherlands: Arnhem is a good hour's drive away, Enschede about 50 minutes.
You can commute from Heiden to work in all directions: The municipality is well connected to the northern Münsterland and the Ruhr area to the south via the nearby A31 motorway, while the B 67 leads to the A43 motorway in the east and to Bocholt in the west, for example.

Tip: Münsterland is a cycling region! 4,500 kilometres of cycle paths offer you almost unlimited possibilities in the city and in the countryside: you can commute to work comfortably by bike and go on great tours with friends and family.

Living in Heiden

Heiden consists of the main town and the three villages of Nordick, Leblich and Lammersfeld, each of which is about five minutes by car from the town centre and is located among the fields and meadows of the Münsterland. In Heiden itself, you can do almost everything by bicycle. The heart of the community with its various shopping facilities, restaurants, town hall and library is surrounded by residential areas. There is also an industrial area to the south-east of the town centre.

Even if rental and purchase prices overall follow the general real estate trend, there are still numerous niches to be discovered in Münsterland when building, buying or renting. In rural Münsterland, the average rental price per square metre is between five and seven euros, and the average purchase price per square metre for flats and houses is 2,100 euros.

Shopping in Heiden

You can get groceries in Heiden in several supermarkets, and on Fridays you can also buy fresh produce at the weekly market . In the town centre, you will find cafés and restaurants as well as clothing, shoes and decorative articles. If you want to shop extensively, you have a choice: the Designer Outlet Ochtrup is only 40 minutes away, and in about one and a half hours you can reach the Dutch shopping cities of Venlo and Roermond.

Childcare and schools in Heiden

There are six kindergartens and day-care centres in Heiden, including a forest kindergarten. You can find the addresses and contact persons on the municipality's website.

The Marien primary school in Heiden offers afternoon care and a group as part of the "Open All-Day" programme. There are secondary schools in the surrounding towns, for example a secondary school in Velen/Ramsdorf, a secondary school in Borken, a secondary school in Reken and various grammar schools.
