Steinfurt consists of the districts of Burgsteinfurt and Borghorst, each of which has a town centre with many shopping facilities and restaurants. The approximately 34,000 inhabitants enjoy THE GOOD LIFE between urban cultural and leisure facilities and the vast Münsterland park landscape.
The district town of Steinfurt is located northwest of Münster between Ochtrup and Emsdetten. Münster and Münster/Osnabrück Airport (FMO) are around 40 minutes away by car, and the Dutch city of Enschede is just as easy to reach. Osnabrück is just under an hour's drive away. You can travel directly to Münster, Ochtrup and Enschede from the three railway stations Steinfurt-Burgsteinfurt, Steinfurt-Borghorst and Steinfurt-Grottenkamp.

The heart of Burgsteinfurt is the historic town centre at the moated castle. In the centre of Borghorst there is a shopping centre and a pedestrian zone with shopping facilities and restaurants. The two districts are about ten minutes apart, with the extensive " Steinfurter Bagno" park stretching between them.
Even though rental and purchase prices overall are following the general real estate trend, there are still numerous niches to be discovered in Münsterland for building, buying or renting. In the rural area of Münsterland, the average rental price per square metre is between five and seven euros, the average purchase price per square metre for flats and houses is 2100 euros.

The Steinfurt Bagno was laid out in the 18th century as a kind of amusement park with exotic structures and water features. Today you can walk here through extensive woodland and around a lake or listen to music in the concert hall; the meadows now belong to the Golfclub Münsterland.
Both parts of Steinfurt are equally inviting for shopping: In the old town of Burgsteinfurt and in the pedestrian zone in Borghorst you can browse in various shops, boutiques and concept stores with individual assortments. Large clothing chains, drugstores and shoe shops have set up shop in the Baumgarten shopping centre in Burgsteinfurt and in the BWS shopping centre in Borghorst. As everywhere in the Münsterland region, there are of course several specialist bicycle shops in Steinfurt with a large selection of accessories, bicycles and e-bikes. You can buy groceries not only in various supermarkets, but also at the weekly markets in both districts.
Tip: For larger shopping trips, a trip to the Designer Outlet Ochtrup, which is only 20 minutes away by car, is a good idea.
In Steinfurt, a total of 27 daycare centres and kindergartens offer childcare options. Fifteen of these facilities are located in the district of Borghorst, twelve in Burgsteinfurt. You can find childcare places online via the portal "STEP" - Kreis Steinfurt ElternPortal.

If you are looking for a job in Steinfurt and the surrounding area, you have good prospects: The unemployment rate in the district is only 4.6 percent. The town is home to small and large companies from a wide range of sectors, including haulage companies, textile factories and chemical, mechanical engineering and wood processing companies. The old-established Rolinck brewery, which now belongs to Krombacher, is particularly well known. The Dwersteg distillery and the Alte Münsterländer Kornbrennerei und Liqueuristillerie Sallandt have an equally long tradition.
The hospital in Steinfurt-Borghorst - the Marienhospital - employs around 500 people.
