"The company should stay in the family": Internal company succession in the Münsterland

New podcast episodes of the joint project Gründergeist #Youngstarts Münsterland

When a generation change is imminent in a family business, it is important to reconcile the interests of the family members involved. "The company should stay in the family" is often the wish. But who has the courage or the experience to continue running the company? And how can a smooth handover be achieved? In the new podcast episodes of the joint project Gründergeist #Youngstarts Münsterland, potential successors get an insight into the stories of Benedikt Wallschlag in Oelde and Yvonne Niehues in Neuenkirchen. The podcast "How was it with you ...? - Company succession in Münsterland" interviews personalities from Münsterland who have already taken the step into company succession.

In Oelde, the son-in-law takes over: Benedikt Wallschlag lives with his wife and two children in Ostbevern in the district of Warendorf. Since January, the industrial engineer has been managing director of the company SMI Service in Oelde, which his father-in-law founded in 1999. SMI stands for service, installation and commissioning of door and window automation. "My wife works in the social sector, so the succession was out of the question for her," Benedikt Wallschlag reports. His many years of professional experience, including in the areas of sales, purchasing and inventory management, qualified the 40-year-old within the family for the company succession. In episode 28 of the Succession Podcast, Benedikt talks about the challenges and opportunities that came with the takeover and why nothing can shake him up so quickly in his private and professional life.

In Neuenkirchen, Yvonne Niehues leads the 24-member team of my Niehues GmbH. The 33-year-old took over her father's painting business and paint shop, although he was her biggest critic at the beginning. "My father didn't trust me to lead the employees, but I was able to convince them with my very own management style and so the critic turned into one of my biggest supporters," she tells the Youngstarts team in an interview. As her successor, Yvonne Niehues benefits from the experience of the long-standing employees and the company's loyal customer base. In podcast episode 29, listeners learn about the changes Yvonne wants to implement in the company and how she can best take her team along with her on this journey.
