A picnic as a Christmas gift idea: 40 places in Münsterland are taking part

Münsterland also has picnics at Christmas time. After the great success of the "Give a Picnic as a Gift" campaign last year, there will be a continuation in 2021: 40 places in Münsterland have again packed picnic boxes for the people of Münsterland - as a gift for loved ones during Advent, for the place under the Christmas tree or in anticipation of a picnic in the New Year. With regional, local and sustainable products. Münsterland e.V. has compiled numerous offers from the region at www.muensterland.com/verschenkepicknick, and more towns and communities are still being added.

The local colour is special, because in each box, local producers, businesses and manufacturers show their tastiest side: The boxes with names like Winter Magic, Connoisseur's Box or Christmas Angel offer, for example, farm jam, bread baking mixes, honey from the farm apiary, walnuts harvested on the farm, white mulled wine, homemade apple-cinnamon liqueur, Christmas biscuits, air-dried beer crackers, spice and various chocolate mixes as well as mini Christmas stollen. In addition to food, some boxes are also stocked with small picnic companions, such as hand warmers, pit cloths or cosy socks for the cosy fireside picnic at home.

As the initiator of "Give a Picnic as a Gift", Münsterland e.V. has cooperated more closely with the Münsterland seal this year. The Münsterland seal identifies products that are demonstrably grown, harvested, produced or refined in the region. Many of the products in the picnic boxes are labelled with the seal.

The picnic boxes are sold directly on site, for example in the tourist information offices or city marketing offices of the municipalities. In addition, fine distilleries, farm shops, bakeries, concept or pop-up stores act as "box fillers" and distribution partners. An overview of who is taking part and in which box which delicacy is packed can be found at www.muensterland.com/verschenkepicknick. There, Münsterland e.V. has compiled all the offers in the region and provides information on what the boxes are filled with and where they can be bought.

"A small fan culture is developing around the locally filled picnic boxes in many places," says Melanie Schlüters, head of the Picnic³ project at Münsterland e.V. "They are an original Christmas gift with a purpose: regional, sustainable and above all good for local trade! Because if you make a Christmas visitor from afar happy with a picnic, you not only give away a piece of Münsterland, but also make the region and its producers better known nationwide."

The connections that are created between the city marketers and regional producers are to be the basis for further projects around the theme of picnics³. Schlüters: "Picnicking is the region's attitude to life. First and foremost, of course, locals and guests should be able to experience this, but our regional businesses can also take up the theme in perspective and benefit from the associated value chain."

Münsterland e.V. has also compiled further regional gift ideas for the Christmas season on the website www.regional-nicht-egal.de. An overview of the region's Christmas markets is available at www.muensterland.com/weihnachten.
