Mobile slaughtering: Öko-Modellregion and Regionalwert AG welcome 80 interested parties in Telgte
Slaughtering usually involves transporting live animals. HOOF - Mobile Regionalwert Metzgerei GmbH from Bornheim shows that there is another way and that it saves the cattle, pigs, sheep and goats a lot of stress. The Münsterland eco-model region, based at Münsterland e.V., and Regionalwert AG Münsterland presented how the mobile butchery works and the advantages it brings to around 80 interested parties on Wednesday. At the Emshof farm in Telgte, master butcher and HOOF Managing Director Thomas Klein gave an insight into mobile slaughtering.
"The strong response to the event shows how much interest there is in collaborative, sustainable solutions in our region. Offers such as the mobile butchery create concrete prospects for regional value creation - both organic and conventional," says Juliane Rabe from the Münsterland eco-model region.
The mobile butchery "HOOF" was developed by the Regionalwert AGs from the Rhineland and Münsterland as a joint project for greater animal welfare and regional processing. They are financed by private shareholders, which made it possible to purchase the mobile slaughterhouse. The system is used to slaughter cattle, pigs, sheep and goats directly on the farm.
Dr Anja Oetmann-Mennen, CEO of Regionalwert AG Münsterland, says: "Animal welfare, the farms, consumers and our natural environment all benefit. This is an important step towards a sustainable agriculture and food industry in our regions."
Georg Schulze Nahrup, an organic farmer from Telgte, confirms the ever-growing interest on the part of farms: "Especially in light of the increasing disappearance of abattoirs and butchers, the slaughter mobile offers a good opportunity to slaughter animals directly on site in a gentle, species-appropriate manner and without long transport routes - and thus to strengthen direct marketing."
Anne Monika Spallek, former Member of Parliament from the Coesfeld district, says: "I am delighted that we finally have a mobile slaughterhouse in Münsterland that protects animal welfare and the environment and enables genuine regional added value for farmers in Münsterland."
About the Münsterland eco-model region
In the joint project "Öko-Modellregion Münsterland", the four districts of Münsterland and the city of Münster are working together with the NRW Chamber of Agriculture and the Leader regions. Under the leadership of Münsterland e.V., the project aims to increase the proportion of bioregionally produced products in the fields, on supermarket shelves, on canteen plates and in shopping baskets. The project is funded by the Ministry of Agriculture and Consumer Protection of the state of North Rhine-Westphalia.
