Münsterland e.V. dovetails internal environmental management with the "Sustainable Destination" programme

Münsterland e.V. is getting serious about sustainability: the regional management organisation has now been officially recognised as part of the ÖKOPROFIT programme in the district of Steinfurt. For Münsterland e.V., the seal is also the starting signal to act as a driver to promote more sustainability in the region. This also includes the fact that the association is undergoing TourCert certification in order to make the tourist destination more sustainable and have it certified as a sustainable travel destination.

"We promote THE GOOD LIFE in Münsterland every day. Responsible use of our resources is an integral part of this," explains Andreas Grotendorst, CEO of Münsterland e.V. The measures implemented range from switching to sustainable and, where possible, regional procurement to reducing paper consumption and promoting environmentally friendly mobility for business trips. Grotendorst adds: "It was clear to us that if we wanted to motivate our partner companies and local authorities to become more sustainable themselves, we had to have done our own homework. With ÖKOPROFIT, we are now on a par with the many role models in the region and can lead the way as a real driver."

From the ECOPROFIT seal to a "sustainable destination"

The ÖKOPROFIT award is just one piece of the puzzle in a larger initiative. Münsterland e.V. is currently also in the process of being certified by TourCert as a "Sustainable Destination". Michael Kösters, Head of Tourism at Münsterland e.V., says: "We see sustainability as a holistic approach. The internal findings from ÖKOPROFIT flow directly into our work for the entire region. We want to be a source of inspiration and support our partners in becoming certified as well."

While ECOPROFIT ensures the ecological efficiency of the Münsterland e.V. office at Münster/Osnabrück Airport, TourCert certification aims to position the Münsterland region as a whole as a more sustainable, socially just and ecologically responsible tourism destination.

The core of TourCert certification is the development of a strong partner network. The businesses are authorised to advertise with "Partner Sustainable Destination". The programme is aimed at businesses that are already certified as sustainable as well as companies that are new to the topic of sustainability. With "TourCert Qualified", regional certification offers a low-threshold introduction to sustainable management. The offer is aimed at businesses in the catering and hotel industry, holiday apartment providers, cultural and leisure facilities and the retail sector, among others. Other partners can also take part in the certification process. If you are interested, please contact Kerstin Clev(clev@muensterland.com).
