Cycling Tour | 360 Degrees Münsterland

After arriving in Rheine, you have the day at your leisure. A special highlight in Rheine is the Bentlage recreation area. In addition to the Nature Zoo, the Bentlage Monastery Museum with the Westphalian Gallery and the Gottesgabe Salt Works are also located there. Just let yourself sink into the grass next to the graduation house, breathe in the intense salt air, listen to the brine as it ripples down the blackthorn branches and watch the storks in the sky as they make their circles. Incredibly calming.

On the second day, you can warm up in comfort on the Münsterland cycle route. This is a very pleasant route where you can switch off your head and enjoy the nature around you to the fullest. When you arrive in Burgsteinfurt, you can already plan a lunch. How about Portuguese tapas at Bagno Lake? If you're interested in a classic Westphalian craft, take a detour to the blueprint workshop. Here you will find delightful textile prints.

From Coesfeld, the first castle on the 100-Castles Route is Haus Loburg - the roots of the old noble seat surrounded by moats are said to go back to the times of Charlemagne. The route continues towards Billerbeck, a pretty little town that is also called the Pearl of the Baumberge because of its central location in the Baumberge hills. If you want to do something good for your feet, legs and circulation, take a detour to the Berkel spring. Here you will find a pedal pool and a newly created wildlife garden. If the weather is good, you can even catch a glimpse of the forest hill in Rheine from the 360° panoramic view from the Longinus Tower.

Get off to a flying start with "Art in the Morning". A tour of the current exhibition at the LWL Museum of Art and Culture will inspire you for the day. At the weekend, the weekly market at the cathedral is an absolute must-see. Here, the people of Münster not only buy fresh produce for their weekend cuisine, they also have a feast without end. Maybe you'll find some charming flowers for your bike basket for a fresh scent around your nose when it's time to head back through pure nature along the Ems cycle path to Rheine. On your way, you will pass Münster's Rieselfelder, a European bird sanctuary on former irrigation areas of the Westphalian city of Münster. It is part of the Natura 2000 network of protected areas and provides shelter for many endangered bird species. On the observation towers and along the footbridges through the wetland biotope you can marvel at the dreamlike fauna and flora of the Rieselfelder.
