The Haltern Lake Tour

Haltern am See owes its name to the large reservoir. However, there are other lakes worth seeing in the area surrounding the town. The approx. 26 km long cycle tour takes you through a blue-green landscape that is unique in the Münsterland region. You first follow the western shore of the lake and reach the district of Sythen after a few kilometres. You will get to know its sights on the way back.

The first destination is Silbersee III, which was renaturalised after being silted up and has developed into a valuable nature reserve. The viewing platforms on the lakeshore offer an insight into nature.

You have two options for extending your stay. The nearby Silbersee II offers pure bathing fun. The 5-kilometre hike around Silbersee III is much quieter.

Shortly after the lake, the cycle route leads back to Sythen. A stop at Sythen Castle is worthwhile here. Following the Mühlenbach stream, the Haltern reservoir is not far away. The Stadtmühlenbucht with its restaurants and views of the many sailing boats is the ideal place for a break. You could easily lose track of time here!

But there are still a few kilometres to cycle. The cycle path follows the wooded northern shore of the lake and crosses the Stever tributary at the end of the lake. Along the southern shore, the cycle tour approaches the town centre of Haltern am See again. Restaurants, beer gardens and the lakeside resort with its beautiful bathing beach beckon once again before you reach your destination.
