Events in Hörstel

Hörstel's calendar of events is full of highlights. Especially at Gravenhorst Monastery there is almost always something going on: exhibitions, workshops and action days make the monastery a popular destination. The Riesenbeck Sixdays is a sporting event with a running distance of 140 km. Top-class sport is also on offer at the "Riesenbeck International". The riding grounds in front of the Surenburg have developed into a first-class event location for horse fans. There are even more events in the town centre and at the "Wet Triangle" between the Mitteland Canal and the Dortmund-Ems Canal.

Workshop

In this workshop, inspired by the summer exhibition ‘WestFarbe’, we will embark on a colourful journey of discovery through flowerbeds, leaves, blossoms and wild growth in the Riesenbeck Educational Garden (Im Vogelsang 75, 48477 Hörstel). Based on our discoveries, we’ll mix our own shades of colour and use them to paint stones from the garden. Afterwards, we’ll arrange the stones together: into colour gradients, lines, paths or a shared mosaic. The result will be a colourful work of art that brings the garden’s entire colour palette to life.

The workshop invites children aged between 6 and 10 to discover nature with open eyes, perceive colours in a new light and get creative together. Snacks and drinks will be provided; please bring your own lunch.

Workshop

In keeping with this year’s theme of ‘Colour’, the DA, Kunsthaus Kloster Gravenhorst in Hörstel invites children and young people aged between 12 and 16 to take part in a photographic colour hunt through the exhibition spaces and the monastery grounds.

Taking inspiration from the ‘Colour Walks’ popular on social media, participants will, following a brief introduction to the basics of photography, choose a colour and look out specifically for matching objects, works of art or natural phenomena. They will then receive helpful tips on how to edit their photos. This results in dazzling colour collages.

Please bring your own digital camera or smartphone.

The event is aimed at children and young people aged between 12 and 16. Participation costs €6. Due to limited places, registration is required: KinderSommerKarussell Ibbenbüren
Registration period: 15 June – 3 July(after the deadline, places will be allocated by lottery)

In a soundscape of talking and singing pebbles in the vaulted ceiling of the DA, Kunsthaus, five fairy tales – written by the artist Alisa Tretau as part of her exploration of the district’s waterways – can be experienced through the senses. The stories explore the theme of nature transformed by human activity and offer poetic, sensory and thought-provoking perspectives on our environment. The recordings were made with the help of narrators from the region.

Trip/Excursion

The walk takes us past the three war cemeteries: ‘Brumleytal’, ‘Riesenbecker Berg’ and ‘Dörenther Klippen’. After dark, under a full moon, we’ll walk through the mysterious, mystical Teutoburg Forest, taking in the silence and feeling a sense of awe. At each of the war cemeteries, I will read short extracts from diary entries written by people who witnessed the fierce fighting at Easter 1945.

Sturdy footwear, weatherproof clothing and a torch or headlamp are required. The tour will go ahead even in the rain; it is approximately 10 km long and of moderate difficulty.

Meeting point: 7 pm at Oase (Tecklenburger Straße 161, 48477 Hörstel)
