Events in Hörstel

Hörstel's calendar of events is full of highlights. Especially at Gravenhorst Monastery there is almost always something going on: exhibitions, workshops and action days make the monastery a popular destination. The Riesenbeck Sixdays is a sporting event with a running distance of 140 km. Top-class sport is also on offer at the "Riesenbeck International". The riding grounds in front of the Surenburg have developed into a first-class event location for horse fans. There are even more events in the town centre and at the "Wet Triangle" between the Mitteland Canal and the Dortmund-Ems Canal.

Art

openART is centred around the KunstKommunikation project grant, which, since 2006, has been awarded annually to up to four participatory, site-specific art projects that invite people to get involved and contribute their ideas.

The first event on the programme is the grand opening of the ‘AUSBLICK!’ exhibition, which brings together the designs from this year’s ideas workshop. In this context, the selected project ideas for the 27th KunstKommunikation project grant will be announced to the public for the first time.

Afterwards, former participants in the grant programme will share their experiences from 20 years of ‘KunstKommunikation’. Guests include long-standing juror Wolfgang Suttner, as well as former grant recipients Nicola Dicke and Frank Bölter.

With art performances by the current scholarship holders, openART promises to be a unique experience, fostering exchange and inspiration against a special, historic backdrop.

Admission is free.

Trip/Excursion

The walk takes us past the three war cemeteries: ‘Brumleytal’, ‘Riesenbecker Berg’ and ‘Dörenther Klippen’. After dark, under a full moon, we’ll walk through the mysterious, mystical Teutoburg Forest, taking in the silence and feeling a sense of awe. At each of the war cemeteries, I will read short extracts from diary entries written by people who witnessed the fierce fighting at Easter 1945.

Sturdy footwear, weatherproof clothing and a torch or headlamp are required. The tour will go ahead even in the rain; it is approximately 10 km long and of moderate difficulty.

Meeting point: 7 pm at Oase (Tecklenburger Straße 161, 48477 Hörstel)

Once again this year, the evening will be hosted by Stefan Keim, cabaret artist, author and well-known cultural journalist for WDR. As at the New Year’s Concert, Stefan Keim will once again guide the Gravenhorst audience through the programme with charm and expertise.
