Mountain and valley

This cycle tour starts in the centre of Ladbergen. There is a lot to discover here: In addition to the local history museum, which is well worth a visit, the lovingly restored shoemaker's museum is also well worth a visit. In addition to the shoemaking trade, it also shows shoe fashion through the ages. The centre of Ladbergen, characterised by black and white half-timbered houses, offers quaint pubs, cafés and restaurants to linger in.

The route then continues past Tecklenburg towards Lengerich. Two highlights await you on this section: The beautiful moated castle Haus Marck, which is nestled in an idyllic landscape, and the Lengerich Canyon, a former limestone quarry that filled with water after it was closed down. The route continues towards the town centre. Here you can see the Protestant town church from 1947 with the neighbouring Romanesque church. This old churchyard gate from the 13th century is the town's landmark. Today there is a restaurant in the old building, which has also served as a town hall, a prison and a classroom in the past.

The route then continues through the hilly Holperdorper Tal, one of the most beautiful valleys in the Teutoburg Forest, to Lienen. There, the barefoot park offers an experience for all the senses. The 2.5 kilometre circular path leads over gravel, sand or bark, but also through water and a mud pool. There is also a fantastic water playground for younger visitors. The village pond is in the immediate vicinity, which, together with the lovingly restored half-timbered houses and winding cobbled streets, characterises the appearance of the state-recognised resort of Lienen.

The final section of the route takes you past the Kattenvenne hedge theatre and back to Ladbergen.

  • The R51 bus route connects Münster main station with Ladbergen.
  • If the weather doesn't play ball or you want to shorten your cycle tour, you can take this bus line from Lengerich back to Ladbergen.
  • The railway stations along the route are in Lengerich and Lienen-Kattenvenne.
  • The stations are served by trains from Duisburg, Düsseldorf, Essen, Gelsenkirchen, Münster, Osnabrück and Recklinghausen.
