Picnic events in the Münsterland

From 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. the courtyard of Lüdinghausen Castle is transformed into a small gourmet market. cheese, bread, spices, fine meats, fish, tarte flambée and French specialities. French specialities will be on offer. Small snacks are snacks are served - as well as wines, beer and other drinks. Volunteers The "Friends of Lüdinghausen Castle" will be on hand on a voluntary basis. They offer interested guests a glimpse behind the the centuries-old façades of Lüdinghausen Castle.

Enjoy a delicious breakfast at Teckolo and then, well-fuelled, set off on your hiking tour. You can expect vegetarian and vegan delicacies at Teckolo, historical places in the old town and the surrounding area as well as special natural attractions.

The approx. 6-kilometre hike is uphill and downhill, so a good level of fitness is required. The event lasts a total of 3.5 to 4 hours.

To mark Open Monuments Day on Sunday 13 September, Senden Castle will open its doors between 11.00 and 18.00 and invites visitors to discover the historic complex from a variety of perspectives. Guided tours, art, insights into heritage conservation and culinary delights will make for a varied day at the castle.

Hands-on heritage conservation

Ralf Deerberg, a restorer specialising in joinery, will demonstrate how historic building fabric can be preserved using a castle window as an example, together with volunteers undertaking a Social Year (FSJ) in heritage conservation. At 12 noon and 2 pm, Ralf Deerberg will give short talks on the topics of heritage-appropriate window restoration and historic wall panelling. At the same time, the Jugendbauhütte Westfalen, together with FSJ volunteers, will provide information about their work at the castle and across their various sites in Westphalia.

Closing event for the ‘Wyschywanka’ embroidery exhibition

More than 200 women from 28 countries have expressed their personal hopes and wishes through embroidery. Artist Angelika Schlüter’s socio-cultural project brings together people from different cultures and generations, showcasing embroidery at the manor house as a universal language for encounter, exchange and solidarity.

Regional specialities

In the lovely atmosphere of the inner courtyard or the castle grounds, visitors can enjoy a selection of delicious cakes, coffee and other drinks.

The castle team is on hand at the information stand to chat, provide information about their work and explain the current stages of construction.

Coffee cups, bread baskets and good conversation: at the Citizens’ Brunch, families, groups of friends, clubs, neighbourhoods and businesses come together for breakfast. Against the impressive backdrop of the castle, the event – now in its 17th year – combines conviviality with social engagement.

The proceeds will go towards three projects for children and young people: the ViP Association for Socially Inclusive Projects in Münster, the mobile reading promotion scheme LeseLeeze, and the Münster Youth Nature Conservation Group. This support helps young people in difficult life situations, promotes access to books and stories, and fosters practical environmental education.

Fresh bread rolls, tables and benches provided, as well as further contributions from various partners, ensure a relaxed morning on the Promenade.

The Sendenhorst Nature Conservation Society ( NFG) has been organising this Apple Festival since 2018!
Since the NaturScheune Hof Schmetkampassociation was founded, many events have been held as a joint initiative between the two organisations.
The Apple Festival has thus been organised jointly by the NFG and NaturScheune since 2025. However, without the many other clubs, organisations and individuals, it would not be quite so varied.

The festival always takes place on the last Saturday in September.
This festival, held at the Hof Schmetkamp recreational area, which includes the Schützenwald and Bürgerwald, is hugely popular with families, young and old alike.

So make a note of the date now! The festival goes ahead whatever the weather!

An unforgettable nature experience with the Dexter cattle!

Are you looking for a special experience that connects you with animals and nature? Then cow cuddling at Haus Visbeck is just the thing for you! Spend relaxing hours on our cow meadow and enjoy the company of our adorable Dexter cattle in the midst of a beautiful natural setting. Here you will experience unforgettable moments and have the opportunity to connect with animals in a unique way.

There will once again be plenty of seating for socialising and various caterers and clubs will provide a varied range of food and drink.

Water bodies shape the landscape in a unique way. Along their banks and within them, we find plants and animals that are rarely, if ever, found in other habitats. Whether flowing or still waters, near-natural or shaped by human activity, we find diverse structures everywhere, which we will focus on during this cycle tour. Over a distance of just over 20 km, we’ll explore the River Ems and other water bodies, including their adjacent habitats. In doing so, we’ll examine the human impacts on the landscape and their potential for both negative and positive developments. The latter, in particular, needs to be developed further with a view to preserving biodiversity, which is in sharp decline. On site, we’ll be able to see for ourselves some successful renaturation measures.

To ensure there’s plenty of time for relaxation, a picnic break is planned halfway through the route. A selection of small vegetarian/vegan snacks will be provided for the picnic. Please bring your own drinks and any additional food as required.

The event is taking place as part of the EU- and state-funded project ‘Biodiversity Experience Sites in the Münsterland Park Landscape’ and is aimed at adults and older teenagers with an interest in nature.

Britta is firmly rooted in the Münsterland region. She has been shaping life at Haus Visbeck for over twenty years - with a great passion for the historic estate, for animals, nature and what constitutes THE GOOD LIFE in Münsterland: peace, mindfulness and genuine warmth. Her Dexter cattle are a personal project close to her heart. The frugal, trusting animals reflect her values and are at the centre of a very special experience.
When cuddling cows at Haus Visbeck, this deep connection between humans and animals becomes tangible for everyone. A quiet, almost meditative atmosphere is created in the middle of the pasture. The gentle cattle allow closeness and trust - and invite you to consciously experience the moment. Britta accompanies the encounter with a great deal of experience and sensitivity for people and animals, explains the behaviour of the animals and creates a safe space for slowing down. Afterwards, she offers a delicious Münsterland picnic.
The picnic consists of the popular picnic box (for two people each) from Dülmen Marketing e.V. and includes regional products. Vegetarian options available on request. Non-alcoholic drinks are also available.
