They are remnants of a much larger former raised bog area: the Amtsvenn, the Amtsvenn-Hündfelder Moor and the Eper-Graeser Venn. The nature reserves are located on the German-Dutch border between Gronau and Ahaus. Another part of this cross-border moorland area continues on the Dutch side as the Aamsveen.
The Amtsvenn is closed to visitors all year round to protect breeding and resting birds that are sensitive to disturbance. However, there is a hiking trail in the north of the Amtsvenn-Hündfelder Moor. This takes you from the hiking car park on the B70 via the Dutch Aamsveen through the northern Hündfelder Moor. Here you will find many plants and animals that are typical of the moor.
With its picturesque landscape, the Eper-Graeser Venn links the towns of Ahaus and Gronau. The fens are named after the districts of Epe in Gronau and Graes in Ahaus. The moor and heathland areas themselves are not accessible for nature conservation reasons. Nevertheless, the area offers interesting opportunities to observe nature, for example at the birdwatching stand in the middle of the fens. Experience beautiful heathland and moorland, and you might even spot a moor frog, lapwing or great crested newt.
