Up and down through the countryside you go in the Bockholter mountains near Greven. On winding paths, past rustic oaks, juniper bushes as far as the eye can see and idyllic heath landscapes. Heathlands exert a special attraction on many visitors. This is also true of the Bockholt Hills, which are a popular recreation area in the immediate vicinity of the small village of Gimbte. Many small footpaths lead directly through the dune landscape that is gradually being recreated here. A beautiful mix of sun and shade gives this place a special glow. On the way through the dunes: a sociable slightly elevated picnic area for a relaxing break with a view. A rustic table and bench combination invites you to linger. From the picnic area you have an unobstructed view of the heart of the Bockholt Mountains: green heath landscape as far as the eye can see. So, get out your sandwich and enjoy the smell of spring! Worth a visit all year round!
Onfoot through the Bockholt Mountains: On an excursion to the Bockholt Mountains, no real altitudes await you - but it will be hilly. You can walk from the hikers' car park to the summit and then gently downhill again on a beautiful, narrow path. The Gellenbach stream, the forest nature trail, the "Heidelandschaft" nature reserve and the quarry pond offer some highlights on your hike through the Bockholt Mountains.
Duration & route: 1.5 hours, around 3.6 kilometres for a round tour through the forest. If you are having a picnic, you should allow more time.
Equipment: Comfortable shoes and provisions for the heath picnic.
