Cycling tour Castles, lakes and wild horses

Arrival in Reken and luggage drop-off at the hotel. Explore the moated castle of Lembeck and the moated castle in Raesfeld on your first bike tour. These castles form one of the most beautiful backdrops in the Münsterland. On your bike tour you will stop at the approximately 1500 year old Femeiche in Raesfeld-Erle, under which murderers and robbers were tried in the past. You will also visit the Devil's Stones in Heiden, an ancient pagan stone chamber tomb. On the way there is certainly time for a rest in a cosy farm café or in a typical Münsterland restaurant. In the evening, stop off at one of the numerous restaurants in Reken. There is something for almost every taste here.

Freshly rested and fortified by the delicious breakfast at the hotel, the cycle tour towards Haltern am See begins on the second day. You will reach Haltern am See through the slightly hilly Hohe Mark forest area. The historic town surprises with its beautiful market square and a liveable city centre with smaller boutiques, gastronomy and shops. Afterwards, well-maintained cycle paths invite you to take a circular route around the beautiful lake. The return trip through Sythen and along the fish ponds in Dülmen is something for nature lovers.

You reach Merfeld and Dülmen along quiet farm tracks. Anna Katharina Emmerick made the town famous beyond its borders as the "Nun of Dülmen". The tomb of the beatified mystic is located in the crypt of the Church of the Holy Cross and can be visited there. The Dülmen Wildlife Park is a popular destination for walkers and cyclists and offers a large number of wild animals living in the wild close to the town centre. One of the most worthwhile excursion destinations in the Münsterland is the wild horse enclosure in the Merfelder Bruch with a herd of about 400 wild horses. The only wild horse stud farm on the European continent has been preserved in the extensive area west of Dülmen. The last wild horses live here on pasture, moorland, heath, birch scrub and oak stands, some of which have a primeval forest character. Visits to the wild horses are possible on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays.
