Greven has no less than 4 major venues. First-class cultural offerings delight audiences with concerts and performances at the GBS Ballenlager. The funfair, city festival and many other events have their place in the city centre. In summer, the Greven Beach attracts visitors to the banks of the Ems. Sometimes sporting, sometimes culinary - there is always something going on at the "Beach". The open-air stage in Reckenfeld has been a crowd puller for years - great fun for young and old.

The music of the compositions by the Kamancheh virtuoso Misagh Joolaee, whose three CDs have been awarded the coveted German Record Critics' Prize, is as (appealing) as their titles. Why does the Iranian spiked violin fascinate him so much? "I could write a book about that! In short: for me, its sound is a symbol of human states of mind. The kamancheh has an introverted, nasal, brittle, introverted sound that is not brilliant and luminous, like the sound of a violin. But that is precisely what is fascinating. Because it resembles a normal human voice, in which despair, insecurity, joy, but also hope become sound."
Misagh Joolaee, who studied with the great virtuosos of Persia and presents the Kamancheh in rousing original compositions at the Bliss, has mastered the traditional playing techniques with virtuosity and has also developed new ones, e.g. double stops or pizzicato techniques à la Paganini. He prefers complex odd rhythms; he transforms tried and tested symmetries and makes them, as he says, "breathe". Here and there he has been inspired by the poetry of the Persian poets and mystics Hafis and Iraqi. Sometimes also from Bach?
Misagh Joolaee was classically trained in Persian violin, setar, tar and kamancheh before he studied European music. At the age of 13, he had already mastered the traditional repertoire "Radif", a fixed collection of melodic figures that are individually embellished. The versatile musician performs as a soloist, in the Joolaee Trio and with renowned symphony orchestras.

Furious lip service
The musicians of Sväng are masters of the harmonica. They have set completely new standards for ensemble playing on this instrument, which is typical of Finland but not often used - both in terms of repertoire and playing technique.
The quartet was founded in 2003 at the renowned Sibelius Academy Helsinki, and since then they have been touring the world and delighting audiences with a programme that is both demanding and entertaining. Sväng play contemporary harmonica music that makes use of the unlimited possibilities of the little accordion sister. In 2019, the band was named "Artist of the Year" at the Ethnogala Helsinki.
With these gentlemen, the Münsterland Festival in the Bürgerscheune in Saerbeck features a melange of music that is free-spirited, full of relish and celebrated with rhythmic vitality, ranging from Slavic melancholy to Nordic dance grooves.
